We are very excited to announce the arrival of BeamO, an innovative 4-in-1 health checkup device for your whole household!
Overview and Availability
What is BeamO?
BeamO is a 4-in-1 health checkup device that utilizes a digital stethoscope to provide insights into your heart and lung sounds, a medical-grade 1-lead ECG to detect AFib, an oximeter that measures your blood oxygen levels, and a contactless thermometer to measure body temperature.
Who is BeamO for?
BeamO is for people who want to track their health at home, either by themselves or with the assistance of a doctor through a televisit. BeamO provides a more seamless way to check temperature, ECG, blood oxygen levels, as well as heart and lung sounds from the sanctity of home. BeamO is also perfect for assisting with at-home health tracking for various family members (such as children or the elderly).
What kind of issues will BeamO be able to detect?
BeamO has the ability to detect atrial fibrillation (AFib) and provide notifications if heart rates are too low or too high. It can also detect high body temperature and show potential signs of desaturation of your blood oxygen.
Lastly, it has a digital stethoscope that provides heart and lungs sounds. This feature can help doctors for the evaluation of conditions such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Note: Only a doctor can accurately interpret heart and lung sounds.
How does BeamO differ from the Thermo? Why is BeamO more expensive?
Drawing from the success from our award-winning Thermo, we’ve decided to take our contactless thermometer to the next level with BeamO. This improved sensor is designed for robustness and sensitivity to distance and movement to provide accurate temperature measurements. This is combined with our state-of-the-art miniaturized oximeter and 1-lead ECG, as well as our integrated digital stethoscope, creating the first multi-scope of its kind.
BeamO is considered a Multiscope and therefore does not reside within the Thermo category range.
Thermo exclusively offers contactless temperature tracking, whereas BeamO boasts the advantages of a second-generation Hotspot sensor that is both more robust and responsive to movement. This results in more accurate contactless temperature measurements. Consequently, it offers a more thorough insight into the user's health and provides an overall greater value.
Through which channels are you planning to make BeamO available?
Once we receive FDA clearance and CE marking, BeamO will first be launched on our webstore and then in our retail partners worldwide.
When will BeamO be available?
Our goal is to launch BeamO in the summer of 2024, but as we will be awaiting for CE marking and FDA clearance, this date could be subject to change.
How much will BeamO cost?
BeamO is priced at $249.95 // 249,95 € // £219.95*
Using BeamO
I’ve never used a stethoscope independently or at home prior to BeamO. Will you provide any guidance to help users take measurements?
Until now, stethoscope measurements have been primarily conducted by doctors in clinical settings and so the average user may not be familiar with performing such measurements independently. The Withings app offers an interactive onboarding guide to help users carry out measurements using their digital stethoscope, including how to place the thermometer for the most accurate results.
How often should BeamO be used?
Depending on the user, BeamO can be used on a daily basis to track your health closely and spot any change in your vital trends (eg. chronic disease management) or on a weekly/monthly basis for acute pathology monitoring (e.g. child’s fever management).
Can BeamO be used by people with a pacemaker?
BeamO’s ECG functionality should not be used by people with a pacemaker, a defibrillator or other electric implant.
Can BeamO be used by people with a stent or metallic implant?
Yes, BeamO should be safe to use for users with a stent or metallic implant.
Can BeamO be used by pregnant people?
Pregnant people should consult their doctor before using BeamO.
Can BeamO be used for babies?
You can safely take your baby's temperature with the thermometer function and the heart and lung sounds with the stethoscope.
Clinical and Medical Questions
Has BeamO been clinically and / or medically validated?
Beamo has not yet been clinically/medically validated. Withings is working tirelessly to clinically validate the device and obtain CE marking and FDA clearance to bring BeamO to market as a medical device.
Is BeamO intended to be used as a major tool for telemedicine?
With BeamO, Withings brings telemedicine to a new level which enables the Augmented Televisit. This innovative feature allows users to take live measurements during telehealth appointments, providing doctors with real-time data. There is also a consolidated shareable health record that is compiled through continuous symptom logging, medication adherence records, and comprehensive personal and family medical histories.
Will users be able to share the results collected by BeamO with their doctors?
Yes! Withings offers a feature directly on the app for users to export their health data into a comprehensive PDF report that can be emailed to their doctor.
In the context of an augmented televisit, BeamO can be used as a companion tool to share your complete health record as well as perform live measurements. Users will be able to share their data directly through our telehealth platform so that doctors can have access to their measurements and complete health record.
Will BeamO be reimbursed by insurance?
At this stage, BeamO is not yet available on the market. The first stage is to make it available to our end-users through direct sales then at our retail partners. For this reason, BeamO is not covered by insurance, but in the future we hope to expand BeamO’s scope in a way for doctor and patients to connect better.
Will doctors be able to use BeamO in their office?
BeamO is not as a substitute for professional tools, but rather as a supportive companion for at-home health management. It offers the added benefit of facilitating data sharing through augmented televisits with healthcare professionals, promoting the practice of consistent measurements over an extended period.
Is Withings intending to distribute BeamO in pharmacies?
We’ve initiated distribution of the Withings ecosystem in French pharmacies and the goal in the coming years is to develop this channel further. BeamO has the potential be included in the strategy once it has received CE Marking.
How will user data be protected?
Withings adheres to the highest standards of user privacy, in compliance with GDPR regulations. Users retain complete control over the data in their Withings app with the flexibility to decide whether to share it with third-party apps or their healthcare providers.
