Why was the Pulse Wave Velocity feature removed?

We brought the Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) feature to a home scale for the first time with Body Cardio. We are now learning its capabilities in the area of measurement of pulse wave velocity may require a different level of regulatory approval. In light of this, the decision was made to turn off the pulse wave velocity feature. This action does not affect the other features delivered by our most advanced scale - such as weight accuracy, body composition, and heart rate readings.

Were you asked by the FDA to remove the Pulse Wave Velocity feature?

The US FDA has neither recommended nor required that Nokia remove the Pulse Wave Velocity feature from the Body Cardio scale. Given our commitment to quality, we have decided to be proactive and remove the feature from Body Cardio while we ensure that we are compliant with all regulatory requirements.

Why can’t customers have Pulse Wave Velocity outside of the US, if it’s just an issue with US regulations?

The Pulse Wave Velocity feature in a home use scale is new. We want to be absolutely sure that regulators in all regions in which we do business have a chance to define requirements that apply to this technology.
