Soon Apple will release iOS 13. With this new iOS release, Apple has made changes to privacy and security. If you install the update, you will notice that Apple will ask that you allow Withings access to permissions that you may already have granted to Withings. 

To ensure your device functions properly, you’ll need to have the latest version of the Health Mate app. 

What does this update mean for your Withings device?

At Withings, we think iOS 13 is a great step toward data safety for users. But this update may impact the way you use your Withings watch or tracker. To ensure you keep having a seamless experience, here’s a little guide to the data we need from you, and how we’re using it to improve the functionality of your device.

What you need to do, and why

Next time you’re using the app, a pop-up will appear and ask for Bluetooth permissions.

Please make sure you continue to allow us to access your Bluetooth: it allows us to connect to your Withings device and sync your data—nothing more. 

Important information for Steel HR / Steel HR Sport, Pulse HR, Withings Move and Move ECG users: iOS 13 will also change your workout mode experience. After the update, you’ll have to open the Health Mate app when activating workout mode on your device. We’ll ask you to give us access to your location. This enables us to draw a cool map and enhance your workout recap with metrics, like elevation, distance, and pace. Location data will only be used for this purpose.

Note: If you prefer not to open the Health Mate app each time you launch workout mode, simply give the app permission to access your location in your iPhone settings. To enable these permissions, go to Settings > Health Mate > Location and select Always. This way, you only need to start a workout from your watch to track your workout path.
