The following guide will walk you through the most common issues iwht Wi-Fi connection on your scale and how to fix them.
Start here: the most common issues
If your scale won't connect, check these three things first since they cover the vast majority of cases:
- Your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network. Our scales only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. They will not connect to 5 GHz or 6 GHz bands.
- Your Wi-Fi password is correct. Even one wrong character will cause a failure.
- Your router has been restarted recently. A quick router reboot often resolves transient connection issues.
If none of these apply, read on for error-specific steps.
My Wi-Fi network doesn't appear in the list
Likely cause: The scale is too far from the router, or the network isn't compatible.
Steps to fix:
- Move your scale and phone closer to the router, then refresh the network list in the Withings app.
- Confirm your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network. Our scales do not support 5 GHz or 6 GHz. If your router is dual-band, make sure the 2.4 GHz band is active and broadcasting separately.
- Check that your router is not set to WPA3-only security. Our scales are not compatible with WPA3. Switch to WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode in your router's wireless settings.
- Check that your router is not set to Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) exclusive mode, and that 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) is not the only mode enabled. Set it to mixed mode (e.g., 802.11b/g/n) to ensure compatibility.
- Hidden networks (SSIDs not broadcast publicly) are not supported. Make sure your network SSID is visible.
Configuration error / setup fails to complete
Likely cause: A temporary router issue or a MAC address filter blocking the scale.
Steps to fix:
- Restart your router and try the setup again.
- In your router's admin panel, check whether MAC address filtering is enabled. If it is, you'll need to add your scale's MAC address to the allowlist. You can find the scale's MAC address in the Withings app under My Devices > [your scale] > Device Info.
Incorrect password / access point refused the connection
Likely cause: Wrong password entered, or the access point is blocking new devices.
Steps to fix:
- Double-check that you've selected the correct network.
- Re-enter your Wi-Fi password carefully. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- Check that your network name (SSID) and password don't contain special or non-standard characters: accented letters (e.g., ü, ø, é), symbols, or emoji can cause connection failures. If they do, try temporarily renaming your network to something plain (e.g., letters and numbers only) to test.
- If the access point explicitly refuses the connection (rather than a timeout), restart your router and check for MAC address restrictions as described above.
DHCP error
Likely cause: Your router's DHCP server is not assigning an IP address to the scale.
Steps to fix:
- Restart your router and retry the setup.
If the error persists try manual IP configuration:
- On your phone, find your current IP address, subnet mask, and gateway (in your phone's Wi-Fi settings for that network).
- During the scale's Wi-Fi setup in the Withings app, choose Manual configuration when prompted.
- Enter an IP address that shares the first three numbers with your phone's IP but uses a different last number (e.g., if your phone is
192.168.1.45, try192.168.1.50). - Enter the same subnet mask and gateway as your phone.
- Set the DNS to
8.8.8.8(Google's public DNS).
DNS error
Likely cause: Your network's DNS server is not reachable or is blocking the scale's requests.
Steps to fix: Follow the same manual IP configuration steps as the DHCP error above. Setting the DNS to 8.8.8.8 usually resolves this immediately.
HTTP error
Likely cause: The scale cannot reach Withings servers, typically because your network routes traffic through a proxy server (common on corporate or school networks).
Steps to fix:
- During setup in the Withings app, tap Advanced configuration, then select Manual configuration.
- Enter your network name and password as usual.
- Leave the IP address, Subnet mask, Router, and DNS Server fields empty.
- Fill in only the Proxy IP and Proxy Server fields with your network's proxy details.
Note about no proxy on your network: If you're on a home network and see this error, try restarting your router and retrying standard setup. If it persists, a corporate VPN or firewall rule on your device may be interfering — try disabling it temporarily during setup.
Still can't connect? Try Bluetooth sync instead
If Wi-Fi setup continues to fail, our scales support Bluetooth-based synchronization as an alternative. Your phone handles the connection to Withings servers on the scale's behalf.
How to enable it:
- Open the Withings app and go to My Devices > [your scale].
- Select Synchronization mode and choose Bluetooth.
Note: Bluetooth sync requires your phone to be nearby when you weigh yourself. Some advanced features, such as automatic multi-user detection and immediate sync when you're away from home, may not be available in this mode.
Compatibility quick reference
| Feature | Supported | Not supported |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi band | 2.4 GHz | 5 GHz, 6 GHz |
| Security protocol | WPA2, WPA/WPA2 mixed | WPA3-only |
| Wi-Fi standard | 802.11 b/g/n (Wi-Fi 4 and below) | 802.11ax exclusive (Wi-Fi 6 only mode) |

If you've worked through all of the above and the scale still won't connect, contact Withings Support: our team can run a remote diagnostic test on your device.
