As you might have seen on our social media, we have announced our new device at CES: U-Scan.

U-Scan is our first hands-free connected home urine lab and represents a whole new product category at Withings. Thanks to its versatile cartridge-based platform, it is able to detect, measure, and analyze multiple biomarkers in urine. In order to help you understand our new device, please find our FAQ below! ⬇️

1) What cartridges are currently available? 

Currently, U-Scan can be used with two cartridges: the U-Scan Cycle Sync and the U-Scan Nutri Balance cartridges. 

2) What is U-Scan Cycle Sync?

U-Scan Cycle Sync is a hormonal-based cycle tracking solution meant to help women build a cycle-adapted health routine. It can detect the following biomarkers:

• LH (Luteinizing Hormone) for precise menstrual cycle prediction and ovulation window determination.
• Specific gravity for water balance.
• pH for protein-vegetable balance.

3) What is U-Scan Nutri Balance?

U-Scan Nutri Balance is meant for anyone wishing to take care of their hydration and nutritional health. It can detect the following biomarkers:

• Specific gravity for water balance.
• pH for protein-vegetable balance.
• Ketones for energy metabolism.
• Vitamin C levels.

4) Who can use U-Scan Cycle Sync?

U-Scan Cycle Sync is currently suitable for women who, within the last three months, have met the following criteria:

• Menstrual cycle is between 21-35 days.
• Not under the age of 18.
• Not on hormonal treatment such as birth control, fertility treatment or hormonal therapy.
• Not diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome).
• Not currently or recently pregnant (in the last 3 months).
• Not breastfeeding / have not breastfed recently (in the last 3 months).
• Not experiencing menopausal symptoms (such as hot flashes).

5) Who can use U-Scan Nutri Balance?

Any adult can use it! Because urine biomarker reference ranges are very different for babies, children and teens, it is not recommended for people under 18 to use the cartridge.

6) Is U-Scan a medical device?

The U-Scan Nutri Balance and Cycle Sync cartridges are not medical devices, they both aim  to encourage and/or help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, U-Scan’s performance has been validated by a third-party lab accuracy study.

7) When will U-Scan be available?

Nutri Balance and Cycle Sync will be both released in Europe starting at the end of Q4 2023. We currently don’t have a date for the rest of the world.

8) How much will U-Scan cost?

You will be able to buy U-Scan starter kit for €499.95 to get one U-Scan reader and one cartridge (Cycle Sync or Nutri Balance) that provides 3 months of testing. You will then have a choice to subscribe to automatic refills and in-app coaching for an estimated monthly amount of €29.95 or buy standalone cartridges on our website.
