UPDATE
The steps referenced by Armelle from Withings Support in this forum 2 years ago and listed here: https://bit.ly/3tLRNlz did not work for me.
What finally did work was:
1. Taking out a battery, waiting 30 seconds, reinserting it while holding down the reset button until the 'reset' bar had passed across the screen and 'Factory' was displayed on the screen with a tick
2. Forgetting the scale 'Body+ A8' in Bluetooth settings (for an iPhone, click in the 'i' to the right of this name and then click on 'Forget this device')
3. Delete the Withings Health Mate App from your phone, including all its data. You will lose any measurements which haven't already been synced to your account.
4. Restart the phone.
5. Reinstall the app, then login with your email and the security code which Withings will send to your email.
6. After doing this my scale, which had previously disappeared from the Health Mate App, reappeared, but still wanted to be installed as a new device. Follow the steps on screen to do this. I had to re-enter the Wi-Fi password as I had performed a factory reset.
Normal service now seems to have been restored - I hope this saves someone else from a similar headache!

I am experiencing the same issue after changing the batteries. Twice I actually managed to re install and reach the ‘ready’ with a cheerful tick mark next to it, but each time I stepped on to the scales it reverted to ‘hello - setup - setup failed’.
At wits’ end.

I had exactly the same issue with “Setup Failed”… I found if you remove the batteries for 30-seconds, then hold down the reset button down WHILE reinstalling the batteries, suddenly it allowed full setup as normal.

I shall try that tomorrow, thank you. Fingers crossed. I spent an awfully long time over every permutation and suggestion and nothing has worked so far.

Edited instructions work, but I have to force to a wifi band that I knew was 2.4g. When I tried the ISP dual band SSID, which they force you too, it would never connect to wifi. Probably going to edit ISP setting and make SSID I want it on 2.4g only, get it connect with that name, then revert SSIS back dual.

Wow the method above mentioning removing batteries and pressing reset at same time worked for me! Thank you so much

Tried everything here, and even disabled adguard and VPN on my router but still was getting the error message as soon as I started setup in the app; so I realized it must be Bluetooth related:
👏Body+ must be deleted from Bluetooth device list before setup in the app can proceed. 👏
Setup worked immediately after I deleted the old Bluetooth device entry
On iPhone go to ⚙️settings> Bluetooth > scroll through the list of current devices, you should see “body+ XX not connected” > tap the ℹ️ > forget this device.
Hope this helps!!

I’m going through an intense weight loss program therefore weighting myself daily monitoring my weight history is important. Then, my scale ran out of battery.
Then, I went through hell trying to setup my scale like several of you have.
The first thing I did was to back-up my data. I recommend all to do this frequently if your data is important.
I tried all the different options listed here except the application and data deletion without success.
I kept reading and trying different options. Then, I had an idea! What if I remove my scale (device) from my App.
Guess what, that worked.

I had the same issue and the procedure outline by conveyancer above was the only one that worked. Thank you

Hi guys,
This is what worked for me.
1. Uninstall the Withings app on your phone.
2. Reinstall the the application and sign into the application.
3. Disassociate/forget the scale from the Withings app.
5. Unpair device from Bluetooth on your phone.
6. Hold the pairing button on the scale whilst inserting the last battery.
7. Let the scale do it's factory reset with the tick indicating completion
8. The scale should now have it's setup screen
9. Pair your phone via bluetooth
10. Go onto your phone, open the Withings app and pair the device/scale to your phone.
11. Should prompt you for your wifi and it it should now work!
Good luck everyone.

it is absolutely inconceivable that there is no telephone number to speak to someone from customer service both in Italy and in any other country!!!!!!!!!!!! before buying a product from this brand again I will think about it not once but ten times.
given this I confirm that the factory reset procedure by removing the battery and reinserting it Holding down the reset button AT THE SAME TIME works.
You need to see on the screen that the factory reset is complete before releasing the button: After that you can RE-configure everything by reinstalling the app and pairing the device again This is an absolute BUG of the product inconceivable for a "theoretical" multinational

At least one hour of my life wasted on this. This is my second Body+ scale. I am now recalling that this same issue made me get rid of the old one and replace it. Basically the device only lasts one battery cycle.
“Fool me once shame on you”
“Fool me twice shame on me”.
In the absence of proactive customer service intervention, will be looking for review forums Amazon JP/AU/UK/DE/US at point of purchase to post zero star reviews. Will also do fit bit forum.

Simply said I WILL NOT buy another Withings product. No support, unexplained battery drains, having to reset the world with each battery replacement about every 2 months.

Body + worked well for me for a couple of years and suddenly stopped. Only shows setup screen. Will not set up. Customer support is useless. Spent too much time on this POS and will perform the dumpster solution.

Carlo B has the answer, which includes the one key point: "
"I confirm that the factory reset procedure by removing the battery and reinserting it Holding down the reset button AT THE SAME TIME works.
You need to see on the screen that the factory reset is complete before releasing the button"
You WILL see the word "reset" with a loading bar on the front of the screen while you do this. Hold the button while putting the last battery in. HOLD IT UNTIL THE RESET FINISHES.
Shame on Withings for leaving it to a buried post on a customer discussion thread to provide the answer to this problem which does not seem to be a rare occurrence.

I had the same issue. The procedure above doesn't solve problem (unpair bluetooth, remove Withings App, reset factory)... nothing. Any suggestions? Thank you, Michele
PS: next time i buy different brand...
