I have similar issue. My BF% went up from 28% to 44% in three weeks.

    That makes no sense.

After I posted this, I went back to the scale an hour later and measured myself again. This time I got 15.5%.

So a 29.4% and a 15.5% reading on the same day. I've had a few scales with this fat/muscle composition function. They all use bio-impedance. The scale runs a weak electric current through your body and the voltage is measured in order to calculate impedance (resistance) of the body. Most of our body water is stored in our muscle. A person who is more muscular will also have more body water, which leads to lower impedance. The electrical impedance, to the flow of an electric current through body is used to estimate total body water which is used to estimate fat-free body mass and, by difference with body weight, body fat. I don't know how reliable this really is. The same thing was tried in medicine to estimate fluid content in the thorax and calculate data about cardiac performance, but it was never that reliable and never became mainstream so I'm not sure how reliable these scales really are.

I have the exact same problem. I am on a faste and losing weight steadily. The weight fluctuates, as I drink water. I would expect to see this, what I would not expect to see is my body fat levels (in kilos) going up and down.

    Date 12/06/2020 14.39 13/06/2020 07.19 13/06/2020 13.18 13/06/2020 21.15 14/06/2020 06.11 14/06/2020 21.23 15/06/2020 07.07 15/06/2020 17.54

    Fat % 26,4 27,3 25,5 24,7 26,8 25,9 26,4 26,5
    Lean % 73,6 72,7 74,5 75,3 73,2 74,1 73,6 73,5

    Fat Kilos 22,6776 23,3142 21,4965 20,995 22,646 21,7301 22,044 21,9685
    Gain/Loss (grams)   636,6 -1817,7 -501,5 1651 -915,9 313,9 -75,5

I literally haven't consumed any calories for the last 4 days and still the Withings WS-50 is all over the place. My conclusion is tthat the fat % measurement is useless and they would be better of not marketing it as anything other than a weight.

    Pretty disappointed to be honest:(

Same problem.  My body fat was down around 12 and went to 24 overnight.   A year ago it was 10, I'm down 5 pounds and it's 18.  Something changed on their side.

I'm having exactly the same issue. The interesting part started about the same time (May) as the first post here. My body fat jumped from 20 to 40% in two weeks. Not only that but also the readings of body fat from my phone and the Withings computer web portal differ as you can see from the picture below! I even had my scale replaced last week, hoping this would fix the issue, nevertheless the readings keep showing 40% fat. I'm 74 kg lean if I have a 40% fat mass I have no idea where it is.

    hello,

I have this same inconsistency since June 2020. Fat% increased suddenly from 30 to 60%.

Any ideas what happened (not to me but to the scale)?

I cleaned the surface of the scale but no improvement.
