    Dear Community,

Thank you for all your comments in this discussion. As previously explained, it is currently not possible to turn the Bluetooth off of ScanWatch and it is not planned for now. If you do not want to use your watch during the night, you can place it anywhere you want. The watch will keep searching for a Bluetooth connection but it will only minimally impact its battery. If you are flying, it is also enough to use the airplane mode on your phone. The waves emitted by the watch looking for a connection are of a negligible amount and will have no impact on your travel.

I understand however that some of you still want to see this feature added to ScanWatch. I will share your request once again to our developers so it can be taken into consideration for our future projects.

    Happy Thursday,

Although I haven't used/found it yet Airplane Mode should do it. It is my belief that all mobile radio devices (this includes WiFi and Bluetooth) must have it by international law.

Hi ccaallen, I am the same opinion. Airplane mode should be a standard functionality. I was very unsatisfied that a new smartwatch like Scanwatch doesn't support this function.

Any feedback from Withings would be very appreciated, whether this function is planned to roll out or not.

And why not deactivate the phone ?. You can deactivate all the bluetooth or only the one indicated for the watch. That is very easy to do.

Hi fjavierpe, if I turn off bluettoth on my phone, bluetooth on my watch is still activated and searching for connection to phone all the time. I want to deactivate bluetooth during the night in order to minimize exposure to bluetooth radiation. Scanwatch has a focus on the health sector and should provide such option.

Ah ok, you want the clock to have an "airplane type" like the one in the Apple Watch. Sorry, I didn't understand you.

Will the airplane mode be supported by Withings? I don't want my device to use BT over night.

    @Withings-Support:

Anything new regarding bluetooth disabling function? Any new software release planned which includes this function?

I am currently using a Samsung Active 2. Disabling of Wifi and Bluetooth is possible with this watch.

But I am still interested to buy again the Withing Scanwatch....

Thanks for a short feedback in advance.

    Hi Withings Support,

I'm also looking forward to the Bluetooth disable function to be made available in future release when we don't need them to sync, especially the exposure we receive when our hands are close to our brain when we're sleeping, though minor they are but prolonged exposure is something else. Disabling Bluetooth, when we don't need them, will also prolong battery life.  And while we're at it, including an automatic schedule of enabling /disabling of Bluetooth will also be nice. I know, one step at a time first... :)

    Hi Withings team,

I would add my vote on such a functionality, this is an important feature for me and would very much appreciate its appearance such that I can wear it at ease during the night where it's next to my head.

    Thanks in advance,
    Maxime

Hi, I would also be in favor of a flight mode option. After switching the phone on again it should then sync (the last 24h?) with the phone.

I also like to sleep with everything in flight mode.

    Thanks!

Coming from a another brand product with an airplane mode, I was thinking that this is a standard feature in any watch, but just installed my new Scanwatch, and no possibility to disable the built-in bluetooth in the watch options.

There is no way I can use it without an airplane mode, bluetooth is only needed when syncing data with the phone, not permanently, in a healthy approach!

Yes, I also need an Airplane mode on my brand new Scanwatch.

This is a must have in order to avoid Bluetooth radiation for a health watch (and potential interferences with other devices).

    Hi Withings Team,

I have been looking at your Watch range for a while and am interested in if you are listening to your customers and developing new watch products that allow bluetooth to be disabled. The ability to sync data over wi-fi would also be useful and allowing the Scanwatch for example to be able to store 30 days of data locally on the device.

Also I tried to submit a support email via the Withings website and was unable as it did not submit so I called the helpdesk which was a really bad line so was hard to hear the Withings support person.

Some consideration into customer engagement needs to be considered as currently the ability to not turn off bluetooth on the Scanwatch is a block to me purchasing.

There is something not 100% with the forum, not all posts get through, but some negative posts get through without any problem.

The modern lowpower bluetooth only transmits 1.2 millionth amps, so it really could not disturb any airplane instruments, even old bluetooth could never interfere, the airplane doors being aluminium, making the cockpit a perfect. Cage of Faraday.. .

Hello. I have exchange with the customer support some months ago. And will copy-paste some elements I have shared with them, as I see "ErnsTT" saying something without having the health of the wearer in mind.
    So, citing myself below:

"Your team has to understand that, even if your material uses an ultra low energy consumption version of the bluetooth chip, this kind of chip is pinging at a low level every second or so. Sofor a device with some medical purposes in mind, when you see everything it already brings to the table, having not thinked about a feature to switch off the internal LE Bluetooth chip is a mistake that can be fixed easily (I hope).

I have tested it with a professional device that measures high frequency waves, and I can assure you the device is emitting high frequency waves continuously between 0.0169V/m to 0.0208V/m
Yes, this seems very low for someone that has no health problem with high frequency waves, but for an EHS person near you, this is a big problem as it pings continuously at a fast pace (and my own wife has this syndrome, so I am very concerned about it!)."

And for the records, I have send Withings Support a video with my measures.
    Regards and take care.

Ich werde 1 Woche testweise nachts die scanwatch nicht tragen. Wenn sich meine Durchschlafstörungen verbessern, wechsel ich zu einer anderen Marke. Echt schwache Leistung von Withings.

I have just returned the newly bought Scanwatch because I cannot switch off the Bluetooth. I was very happy with all the rest but the fact that (even LE) it emmits all time long on my body + I permanently leave a digital footprint are not acceptable for me.

mirror all comments, once the feature to turn off bluetooth is made available, I would be very interested in the product.  Until then currently sticking with my old 2012 Pebble watch  (yes in 2022)  which does have the feature to go into airplane mode.
