My steel HR no longer automatically reconnects to my Pixel 5 if I step away from the phone.
I onl;y notice when I realize I have gotten messages but no notifications.
I then open the healthmate app and it shows the watch disconnected. Eventually, if I watch the app long enough, it will find the watch and reconnect. If I don't open the app, the watch never reconnects.
Any help appreciated.

The same here, iPhone XR. It kind of loses its purpose if you need to check if your watch is connected (while your phone sits on your desk next to you) to make sure you get the notification :( I never "kill" the app, it should be running in the background, but as others say I need to manually open it and wait for syncing. Please let us know how to solve this. (I have ScanWatch 42mm)

I have the same problem, the watch is not reconnecting without opening the app.
The extra info I can give is that blueetooth connection with the cell (iPhone SE 2020) is working well. I mean, if I open the bluetooth menu (in Cellphone Configuration) the "Steel HR 9B" is connected but when I check inside the Health Mate app, the watch is not connected inside "Devices". It's clear that there is an internal problem between app and cellphone as the watch-cellphone reconnection is working properly well.
