I’m the father of a 14 month old toddler who sleeps in the same room and is woken up in the middle of the night by him. This means that my sleep gets interrupted, and I’ll need to go out to the kitchen to fix a bottle for him and then rock him back to sleep. My watch has only once tracked these nights, and for the rest does not show any sleep data. If my sleep is interrupted like this, it’s exactly when I want to know more about my night’s sleep (or lack of). I suspect my watch is not tracking these nights because I am walking more than 150 steps but that’s not something that can be avoided.
Can you please fix this?

Hello,
Thank you for your valuable feature request about our sleep algorithm. Your input about parents of babies needing to walk a bit during the night is useful to us. I wish you a wonderful weekend, and just wanted to add, as mentioned in the nice comment below we do recommend wearing the watch comfortably tight!

Hi, my gf had a similar issue recently. Apparently the devices also have a temperature sensor built in. When we sleep, our body temp drops and the steel detects this and combines the data with detected motion in order to get sleep data. The hr models also incorporate heartrate. If your watch isn't recording sleep, it may be that you have the watch too loose on your wrist. I'd try tightening it by a notch and see if that helps. The watch DOES need to be pretty snug to get accurate temperature.

@marknicholls1962 - Thanks for the reply, and yes I do wear the band reasonably tightly, at least enough that the watch doesn’t move while going about my daily activities. However I question your assertion that the watch has a temperature sensor built in. I see no documentation on this and if this is true, perhaps an official comment could confirm this? I believe the sensor required to be snug is the light emitting one that protrudes on the back of the watch which measures the response of the skin and bloodstream to LED light. Nothing to do with temperature.

I don’t have an infant, but I’m also having a problem with my Steel HR consistently missing large blocks of my sleep. It usually gets my waking time correct, but often will say I went to sleep several hours after I actually did. For example, I will go to bed at 22.00 and fall asleep quickly. When I wake at 06.40 and sync the watch, the app says I slept for only four or five hours, falling asleep sometime around 02.00 and waking at 06.40.

I'm having this same issue. I've had a few different withings watches and have accurate sleep data for years. Now we have a newborn and I'm up a lot in the night, it counts the first up as my waking time despite going to bed for hours afterwards. My watch is worn tightly. Editing the end time of the sleep just gives empty useless data.

Hello Everyone!
I am sorry to hear of the gaps you are having in your sleep data. If you are sleeping through the night and not getting up frequently then this is not expected behavior at all, so I would recommend reaching out to our customer support at: https://within.gs
If you are getting up often during the night, then thank you for providing your feedback! We are always interested in enhancing our sleep detection in our firmware updates.

I don't infants any more... but... I have the same issue of sleep tracking missing large blocks of my sleep, usually at the beginning of the night... but also sometimes at the end. I know the rule is you must be asleep for 3 hours before it records sleep, but there are times when, once it does start recording sleep, 1.5 hours later, it records I was awake for 10-15 minutes, and then records more sleep after.... Which doesn't seem aligned with the 3 hour sleep rule. I really like this when it works but its a bit inconsistent. And in reading this and contacting support, its interesting to learn about the temperature sensor. I wonder if that will be "exposed" in the UI (phone and/or app) any time in the future.

I just got my withings Steel HR so am new to it. I did notice that the one night, in the first 5 nights, that I woke up and checked my phone, it thought that I woke up at 4 when I reached for Matchington Mansion to calm my nightly ruminations. I assumed it was because my phone knew I woke up, but maybe it was the cooler temp of my wrist outside the covers?!

I am a new Steel HR sport user (almost a month) and i wear it all the time correctly on my hand. Sleep is by far less acurate than my previous fitbit Charge 2. I am missing hours of sleep in tracking, begining of sleep, it doesnt log if you take half an hour nap in the afternoon etc. Its very very frustrating all this.
The algorithm needs to be improved because its a wonderful device and needs to be more accurate. -
Please return the ability to track naps. Sleep tracking is a big reason I have a health tracker. The fitbit flex did a great job but did not have a watch feature. LOVE the watch and many other features. Sleep data is inconsistent. I have experienced the same issues mentioned above. I did read on this site that if you are a light sleeper it may delay sleep tracking and if you wake in the middle of the night stop sleep tracking. The flex was more apt to pick up when I went to bed vs. in a deep sleep and was able to register more than one entry in a night. I can wake up from back pain and not able to go back to sleep for over an hour. The ability to track multiple or show that I was awake for that time and then went back to sleep would be very beneficial. It should also be able to tell when you have gone to bed and in a very light sleep and start tracking at that point. Or if you could manually tell it you are going to bed so it will begin tracking.
I hope this does get updated. I fell in love with the watch, but really need to keep track of sleeping patterns!
