Hi,
I am having trouble customizing my Steel HR Sport Screen. I can’t change the order or add other customizations. Changing the order or ticking the check mark for a new one doesn’t get saved. After leaving the Screen Customization Page within the app and reentering it will have the order and number of customizations set to the default:
Steps
Heart Rate
Battery Level
am I missing something, doing something wrong? I didn’t had this problem with my regular steel HR.

I got feedback from support today, that this case has been referred to Withings specialist team for additional review.
I hope they get a developer or QA person to review the saving procedure on "Screens customization" menu in the android app and are able to fix the "not saving" issue soon.
If you go to "Workouts customization" menu - it works great - you make changes, you exit the menu and re-enter the menu - all the changes you made ARE STILL THERE - have been saved.
But it's not the case in "Screens customization" menu - you make changes, you exit the menu and re-enter - all the changes you made HAVE BEEN DISCARDED and your looking at the default list again.

Hi I had a ticket open for the customisation issue and got that answer today.
"Hi Robert,
I apologize for the delayed response.
Please be informed that we will look into this issue that the naps recorded as this is not expected behavior for the most recent firmware update. Our new Steel HR firmware update will be deployed this week and please update me if naps are still tracked.
Thank you and have a nice day.
Best regards,
Alda"
Even thoug they are addressing a different topic (naps) I think it was a copy and paste error and hope the customisation issue will be solved with the update as well.

I don't think it's a firmware issue on the watch - it's the android app that has problems saving the selection one makes on screens customization menu. Changes you make are not saved on the app when you exit the menu.
You can see that when you reopen the same menu - everything is back to how it originally was before you made edits. If you trick the app (that is not close the customization menu as it is supposed to be closed via "BACK") then the changes are indeed synced to the watch and watch will display them but only till the next sync - then again default list and order of screens from the app is written to the watch.
But we can hope that along a new firmware also android app will be updated and we will get a fix.
Then all I could complain about is the weak glass of the watch - I would gladly pay +50EUR for the watch to have a sapphire glass or gorillaX that would not scratch so easily as this mineral glass that Withings is using.

My "temporary solution" to this is:
- Go into Screen Customization
- Choose the customization wanted
- Return to the Main Page
- Turn Bluetooth off so that watch no longer syncs
(When you change the customization and don't go back into the Screen customization or it will revert back). This keeps the customization until my phone syncs again. So every now an then I re-sync my phone, but then re-apply the changes to the customization and then turn my Bluetooth off. It's a pain, however i'm doing this so that the heart rate doesn't drain the battery.

Rebecca,
That indeed would be a temporary solution if you don't care about notifications.
As notifications were the nr 1 reason for me for getting this watch (other than the looks) it would not suit me.
The looks of this watch is what pushed me over the edge... to try again... even after the moisture issues I had with the first one 2 years ago. -
Fingers crossed that they will have an update for the watch and the app. What annoys me a lot is that no Withings representative is answering here in the Forum. Is this forum moderated at all?
Everyone with the same issue please upvote this post so maybe we we get someones attention. -
Hi,
I'm having huge problem with screen customization on my Steel HR watch. Simply it's not working. I can't change order of features to be shown on a screen nor add other functions such as timer or stopwatch or strava weekly distance.
It's a permanent problem. After buying this watch everything worked just fine, after updates it stopped working.
I've tried factory reset of my watch, but without a success...
Right now I'm not able to have full functionality of my watch and it's very annoying...
Please improve an app!
I'm running on Android 10, Samsung Galaxy S10. My watch has latest firmware: 6981.

Same here. I can change the customisation order on the app, but it never transfers to my steel HR, so I cannot add the Timer or the Stopwatch or change the order of the others
I have unpaired and factory reset the steel HR and removed and reinstalled the android app on my phone. When I restarted the app and repaired the phone, the customisation order in the app was exactly as I had left it (as I wanted it to be) rather than a default - but the phone was still on the default.

I am running S10+ with all the latest updates and Steel HR and have not had issues with the screen selection for over a year now.
NB! Before trying my next recommendation, make sure to sync the Steel HR and Health Mate app over the web so that all your captured health data is safely stored on your Withings account.
Simply uninstalling and reinstalling an app is sometimes not enough. Android tends to keep some stuff so it's easier for you to continue using an app you used before - this is a problem and not helpful when an app is misbehaving.
One more thing that has helped me with other android apps:
Instead of deleting the app, try to clear all app data like this:
1) Long push on the Health Mate app, select "App info"
2) Go to "Storage"
3) Select "Clear data" - this will delete all the configuration info and saved data of the app from the phone.
Now when you start Health Mate app it's like using it for the first time.
There should be no more "residue" from previous installs that might cause problems. -
Thanks tarmo.luumann! It actually worked!

I did all that in many ways, many tries, and it didn't work. I created a new account and now I can customize the screen all I want, it's suddenly working. So it is definitely a problem of account data compatibility or something.
Also, when it didn't work, the date row was unchecked(you can't change it yourself, it's a default screen). Now it is checked for some reason. The bug might have to do with that, I don't know.
Now, I would REALLY LIKE that my account would work without losing all my 1+ year of personal data!!!

I had the same problem with Steel HR (model HWA03B) on Samsung Android 10. I tried various steps discussed in this thread but finally got lucky by basically clearing everything.
I performed these steps:- Ensure that all workouts are synced with the Health Mate app
- Dissociate the watch within Health Mate: Devices -tab -> Settings -> Dissociate this product
- Clear Health Mate data: Android Settings -> Apps -> Health Mate -> Storage -> Clear data
- Uninstalled the app
- Install app again from Play store
- Perform factory reset on the watch:
-
Press and hold the button on the side of the watch for 5 seconds
- While the watch shows "Factory Reset", press and hold the watch button for one second and you will see "Reset in 5 clicks".
- Click the button 5 times
- Wait for watch display to say "Setup"
- Open Health mate app
- Run the setup
- Go to app's settings and customize your screens
For resetting the watch I followed instructions from here: Your Steel HR / Steel HR Sport doesn't restart after the installation https://support.withings.com/hc/en-us/articles/226956528-I-m-having-issues-installing-my-Steel-HR-Steel-HR-Sport-What-should-I-do-#reboot

Thank you Samik! That actually did the trick! Not sure that uninstalling/reinstalling the app is actually necessary, but for sure dissociating, factory resetting and re-associating the watch was the right move.
Now I finally have timer and stopwatch functions enabled on my old, still "NOKIA" branded Steel HR! And all the health mate account data is still there, that is also very important.
