The original Pulse 0x didn't do continuous heart rate monitoring, you had to remove it from its carrier and touch it to your finger to take a measurement. I understand that the Pulse HR is intended to always be in contact with your wrist so that it can take more frequent measurements automatically.
However, I really enjoy the flexibility that the older product offers, allowing you to choose between wearing it on your wrist with the included band, or attached at your waist with the included clip, or even floating in your pocket if you're careful not to keep anything else in there that might damage it. Unfortunately, rechargeable batteries have a limited shelf life, and my Pulse 0x just doesn't last as long on a full charge any more as it originally would. So I'm considering replacing it with something newer.
Given the fact that you'd obviously not have any heart rate measurements if you take the Pulse HR off your wrist, is there any hope that the device's remaining features might continue to work normally if it was kept in your pocket? Is it even physically possible to remove the wrist band so that you could hold it in your pocket?
