WBS01 Pairing Wizard does not work on MacOS 10.14

I can workaround this by changing my WiFi to use the same SSID and key as in the past, but it's not a great solution - it means I can never change them if I want the Body Scale to work.

I am having this problem too - can't update my scale's wifi. Using a USB-C adaptor.

I'm having the same problem for several months now. I can't leave my wifi the same and had to change it. I tried and tried, even used multiple computers with the same result. I even upgraded one computer to Catalina beta (10.15) and found that they no longer support 32 bit apps! So we will never be able to use it from that point forward unless Withings writes a new 64-bit app.I even tried using a Windows VM, but the USB device does not even appear in order for it to be passed through to the VM. I hate to spend $150 on another scale, when this one works great except the wifi can't be changed.

Same frustrating issue here. I am running a current version of MacOS and have upgraded and changed my wifi... 

Does anyone know if Withings is looking into this issue? I'm with Burjoes, no point paying for another set of scales when these work perfectly fine, I just need to change the WiFi settings

According to one of our Senior Team Members, you should be able to reconfigure your scale with a Mac running an earlier version of macOS or with a Windows computer. Once the scale is reconfigured, it should continue to work without issue and you can view results on your Mac running macOS 10.15 or any compatible mobile device

In other words, they have no interest in releasing a 64-bit app to make it compatible with macOS Catalina. 

I can't believe they want to risk ruining a company's reputation for not rebuilding a 64-bit application. I will say goodbye to any future Nokia Withings product.

A reason to dump your withings products... I don't use the watch anymore since the assisted GPS got wildly inaccurate paired with a galaxy S10 - it jumps kilometers back and forth to places where I've never been...

I seems to be a problem. The code was last touched 8 years ago. The people who wrote it are likely working elsewhere. And it was built with QT, a cross platform toolkit, which is likely needs 8 years of updates too. This little thing is not so simple.

Well, actually the fact that it is build with QT only makes things easier (the code that interacts with the UI should not have significant changes), but of course there are other factors (e.g., the actual language/compiler used -  QT is just the UI toolkit - and how crazy they went with data types and out-of-date OS features).

But I understand your point: it's an old codebase (although chances are good that they shared the same code between platforms and kept it updated for Windows), and between the Nokia purchase and buyback some people might have left the company. It's also not clear what they will focus on - at least not from the buyback announcement.

I'd say they could open-source the old code, but that is also wishful thinking on my part. Guess we'll have to wait and see (or maybe be more vocal in requesting).

Plan A

The easiest is if you can invite over a friend who has not upgraded macOS recently.

Plan B

If you are up for a challenge this may work (It took 38 minutes for me, but I have tried VirtualBox before)

1. Decide if you are up ready to run a different OS on your Mac.
2. Download VirtualBox https://www.virtualbox.org 
3. Install it. Notice the installation will likely fail as macOS will ask for permissions. Grant the permissions and run the installer again.
4. Download Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. https://ubuntu.com/#download
5. Make a Virtual machine with the Ubuntu disk image. And start Ubuntu (no need to install).
6. With FireFox on Ubuntu, download the 64 bit pairing wizard.
7. With the terminal in Ubuntu set the executable bit on the wizard, and start it with sudo
8. Connect your Withings Scale with USB
9. Tell VirtualBox that you have connected the scale.
10. Now the Pairing Wizard will see your scale and you can pick wifi network and type in your password
11. Congratulations!

Oh, thanks for letting us know that VirtualBox + Ubuntu is a workaround, could do that on a pinch. But indeed it isn't a feasible solution for most users, and Withings should consider dusting off this software if they want to claim Mac support.

i have the same problem .... Withings / Nokia have dropped support for the latest OS.  Solution, dig out an old Windows laptop and try that way. Basically, Nokia / Withings probably dont want to support the old scales ... they want you to buy a new one.

Not sure it will do any good but I sent in a support request today.

I've upgraded my WiFi network and need to reconfigure my WBS01 scale. Since the the new OS (10.15) will not run 32 bit apps I need a 64 bit build of the app. I couldn't find it on your website and it seems that other users of this scale are having the same issue. Apple has been warning developers for over 3 years that 32 bit apps were on the way out and that the older 32 bit apps would need to be updated. Has Withings abandoned support of the WBS01 or is a new app on the way. Please let me know. Thanks.

I have been on the phone back-and-forth for the past two days and to cut a long story short withing do not careless and don't seem to have any intention of getting a 64-bit compatible pairing wizard doesn't care about all these loyal customers over the years I will not be buying a new scales as the scales are working perfectly okay apart from the 64-bit  

And as we all know the scales and products are not cheap WITHING YOU ARE A BIG JOKE

To save people time why don't you just put it on your website the wizard is not compatible with any 64-bit  products

I am a software developer with macOS skills who have asked if they needed assistance. They told me that their development team is on the case and did not need help.

I am so frustrated by this. I moved and now I can't update my scale!

Add another voice to the list that can't connect the scale due to out of date software. I'm not going to throw away a perfectly functional piece of hardware that has served me well for years just because management aren't willing to support existing customers and assign developer time to this issue.

Withings offered me 25% off a new scale. I took it and kept the old one in the guest bathroom as a spare. The workaround is if you know the old wifi info, rename your phone as the old hotspot with the old password. Then step on the scale several times to let it connect to your phone's hotspot. I did this and it works.

My scale is still working with my old Mac computer. I think older devices nowadays will not work or is not compatible anymore with a 64-bit processor since they were programmed to work only at a 32-bit processor.

Ichigo - go to the apple then About and let us know exactly what Mac you have.

Used Henrick's "Plan B" with VMware Fusion (instead of VirtualBox).  Worked like a champ!

Same here. Great hardware. It is a shame the company does continue support .

This is a very stupid situation.

I guess they want us to buy newer scales with smartphone pairing.
Disappointed.

I am just adding to this thread in hopes that they will get this fixed.  I did not spend all this money on a product that was pushed in the Apple store itself for them not to support the latest OS.  That should be in the agreement if they want to be pushed by apple they should continue to support apple OS.  This thing is pretty useless to me now.  It might as well be a $10 target scale without it connecting to the wifi.

This is highly disappointing.  If the company will not stand behind its products, I will take it to Goodwill and never buy from Withings again.
