Indoor walks don't count towards steps?!?

    WTF?!

This is absolutely where I walk most being chained to a desk 5 days a week for 10 hours a day!

Several of my other watches can do this without a problem.

This needs to be fixed immediately if it's an actual problem, 'cause how would you measure any steps indoors?

So I've done some more testing and the issue seems to be a few things:

    1. The watch doesn't even kind of get close to estimating the distance of an indoor walk walkout. It's probably only 1/3rd of the total distance each time - if that.

    2. It does add some steps, based on the very short distance it recorded you walking during the workout.

    3. If you correct the workout and edit it to change the distance (to the correct larger distance), it doesn't then retroactively update the steps correctly on the watch face.

    4. What is displayed in app for my step count claims 64% of my steps were met after editing and correcting my workouts. This sounds about right... but it doesn't seem to make it to the red dial on your watch face which still claims I've only walked 35%.

I'm guessing the disconnect here is that the watch has its own means of moving the red dial based on what it thinks is a step, and it completely ignores the changes being made inside the app to any workouts. The same logic that detects steps is likely what gives the workout its initial distance estimate... and that part is really wrong too, which is why I have to edit the workouts.

I'm betting this goes further too. Any other workouts using another watch or tracker, will make it into HealthKit, and the Scanwatch app can see those, and it counts the steps towards your day... but it doesn't put that information on your watch either.

This makes the red dial kinda pointless unless you do traditional walking in the real world. It would be nice if it represented more a measure of progress towards your days total workout goals, or calories. Not steps with the watch on exclusively.

@happiestwhenevil I guess this makes sense as my TicWatch uses both mobvoi tracking AND google fit tracking on the same device.

When I walk, my treadmill shows one thing, (REALLY HIGH), mobvoi shows one thing, pretty high and gFit shows another (lower).

While I guess it makes sense that each software is going to measure differently, it also does not know your gate... only tracking (likely) by the movement of your arm... which (for my work desk treadmill) can be frustrating 'cause I might have that hand on the desk with the mouse or frequently on the keyboard, losing ALL the arm movement.

So, as frustrating as all the variations are, I suppose I'd rather have it report steps being under or lower - so I work to get to the goal and actually do MORE, instead of having it report so much over that I'm cheating myself.

    ya know.

*it would be nice if we could program inseam as well as the app already knowing our height, so there could be an even better idea between your daily measured weight, height (which won't change much) and stride (measured by inseam.)  That could provide much better results.

I'm also considering wearing it on my ankle for intentional workouts at my desk (vs on my arm when I'm out and about (regular activiity.)

If Indoor Walk doesn't count steps correctly, will they be picked up correctly if you don't track the workout "Indoor Walk"?  Also, how can I set the watch and app to show steps real time as I walk on tread?

Under the exact same conditions my Apple Watch correctly records the distance displayed on my treadmill and records the workout and steps correctly too. So I give up with this and I’ll be returning the ScanWatch unfortunately.

I have the same problem but I figured out a solution. I have an iFit treadmill so I purchased the monthly subscription through the iOS App Store and now I have the right workout distance in my Apple Health app (turning off HealthMate writing of the distance to Apple Health). Step count is still too low on Scanwatch but distance will be more accurate in Apple Health. Of course you need an iFit Bluetooth treadmill for this workaround.
