Would it be possible for support to do their job and come up with a solution to an issue that seems to be affecting a lot of people buying their faulty product? Great thanks

After initially leaving a comment the only way I was able to get the wifi to work was to go to my Bluetooth settings and forget the device. After closing the app and letting the scale sit for 30 seconds it would then generally allow me to continue and complete the setup. However it did fail occasionally even doing this method. In the end when you get to the wifi screen just scroll to the bottom and choose “I don’t have wifi” this will completely bypass wifi and just means when scanning / weighing on you need to have the phone open and the app open before weighing yourself. Which is a much preferred method to me than having to setup the wifi almost every day or second day… seems to be a very common issue these days for whatever reason as when I first bought this product the wifi worked seamlessly for many, many months… time to get a solution sorted Withings!

Reading through this it seems like a recent development. Products working for years suddenly failing and new products not working. Mine is about a year old. Worked fine until February 3.

Mine worked fine previously before too, but the OP is mroe than 2 months and clearly it is still a problem...

Withings you need to pull your finger out… this is clearly an issue for a lot of your customers. All of the temp fixes I was able to do like using Bluetooth has to stopped working now and this very expensive scale that was supposed to make capturing details quick and easy is no longer working whatsoever…

Same problem with my new scale. Can't finish setup. Fails during "preparing update" phase anywhere between 1% and 30% of the way through. Factory reset didn't fix it, forgetting bluetooth device didn't fix it.

This aside, surely it should still be able to weigh you out of the box without any updates at all? It should fail gracefully instead of requiring an update and pairing to take your weight.

Edit: I was finally able to get it to work by factory resetting again and saying I didn't have any WiFi, which presumably makes it setup over Bluetooth instead. I do have Wifi, but update preparation wasn't working when I said I did. *Shrug*

I left the batteries out for a week and tried again. Same situation: Setup failed. Immediately. No second step. As soon as it begins, it ends. I can't even use the scale as a regular old scale and enter measurements manually. This is beyond frustrating. but THANKS SO MUCH FOR MARKING THIS ISSUE AS COMPLETE

I was repeatedly getting the “x setup failed” screen trying to re-setup my scale after a mysterious disconnect. Nothing would work until I deleted and re-installed the mobile app. Factory reset + mobile app reinstall got me going again. Hope this helps. (body+, iOS)

How can this be complete when I just got my scale today and right out of the box same issue. Called tech support did a lot of resets and battery pulling. Nothing. Escalating told me to wait up to 24-38 business hours. Not sure if that is hours days or what. Waiting with a paper weight.

    Also having a similar error.

Forgetting bluetooth device on the phone fixes the immediate setup-failed issue.

But I still cannot re-install the device to the app.

Have tried - brand new Energizer batteries. Factory Reset. Bluetooth only install, standard wifi install. Nothing. The app pairs the device to bluetooth, and gets to the "Checking for Updates..." screen, then goes to "Configuring Scale..." and I get an error message saying "An unexpected error has occurred. Please Try Again" and when I select Try Again, the app screen goes white and nothing appears to be happening. At this point the scale is on screen 3/4. It sits there for several minutes, nothing happens, and eventually Setup Failed...

This was working up until a few days ago when I tried to re-sync with the app. Now it won't even measure my weight! I paid money to SAVE time recording weight measurements. Now I can't even measure it.

OK, so now I have -

    1. left the batteries out for 10 minutes

    2. deleted the app fully from my phone and re-installed. This caused the device to show up back in the Installed Devices list. But, it wouldn't reconnect. So,

    3. I chose the "disassociate this device" in the app, figuring i could get a clean re-install.

    4. Forget device from bluetooth, reinserted the batteries and tried to setup again. This time, I get Setup Failed immediately no matter what I do, all previous steps followed to the letter. Tried all of withing's self help articles. No dice.

Old firmware was 1671. Not sure what it is now that I've factory reset a dozen times.

Customer service was not very helpful. They averaged about 1 email reply per day with boilerplate "follow this article" stuff, but I seem to have gotten my scale to work again:

    1. left the batteries out for 2-3 days

    2. tried once more to set up again, and got the immediate "setup failed" message after holding the button on the back for 3 seconds.

    3. After the scale powered off again after the failed attempt in step 2, I randomly decided to push the button on the back 3 or 4 times rapidly, instead of holding. This opened the same setup menu, except this time, it connected. No idea if these rapid button presses had anything to do with it, but it worked. The scale set up successfully via bluetooth and also wifi. My firmware version is now reporting as 1651.

hope this helps someone. Customer support had run out of suggestions to fix it, but I decided to try one last time. I had certainly followed all of their suggested help articles multiple times. Here are my exact steps:

    1. hold the button on the back for 8 seconds and perform a factory reset

    2. let the factory reset complete, then I removed the batteries for 2 days and forgot about it. I had previously tried leaving the batteries out for 10 minutes and 2 hours, with no luck. Maybe it just takes a couple days for the charge to drain off.
2.5. Removed the app from my phone completely and re-installed from the App store. This caused the scale connection to show back up in my Installed Devices menu. From here I chose to Dissassociate the Device from my account. Now, I waited 2 days with the battery out.

    3. make sure to "forget" the "Body+ 3A" connection in your phone's bluetooth settings before attempting any new connections.

    4. open the app, navigate to install device menu, choose body+ scale, press install and get to the screen where it says "hold button for 3 seconds"

    5. at this point, re-insert the batteries (or hold for 3 seconds if you already did that), get setup failed message on scale screen.

    6. close and open the app again, go back to the install menu and get to the screen where it says hold for 3 seconds

    7. press button on the scale 4 times rapidly. the Hello/Bonjour/Ciao SETUP screen appears. Quickly press "next" on the App.

    8. at this point the scale connected and set up via bluetooth correctly. Since that worked, I went in and added my wifi network, which also works.

9 firmware reporting as version 1651. Before factory reset, when it lost connection to my app, it was reporting 1671. When I try to do a "check for updates" in the settings menu on the app, it says the scale is up to date. So IDK what's going on there.

I'm not sure if steps 5 and 6 are necessary, or if the rapid button presses instead of the holding had anything to do with it. I don't know if the disassociating from my account was necessary either. Maybe it was just the leaving the batteries out for 2-3 days. But this is my exact list of steps that led to re-connection.

Lets hope it doesn't break again...

I believe if your WiFi is 5.0 GHz frequency, the scale can only connect to 2.4GHz frequency Wifi so anyone with high speed Wifi will need to connect via Bluetooth [BT].  The issue is that there is no error message to let one know that the scale will not connect to 5.0 GHz frequency Wifi.  If the setup fails, try choosing "No Wifi available" to set up via Bluetooth.  Make sure that your Bluetooth [BT] setting does not currently have the scale's BT address in the setting - if it does, choose the blue "i" to "Forgot this device" since one needs to start as a new setup.  Good luck!

All of a sudden, my Body+ scale just stopped working.   I cleaned the battery terminals, replaced the batteries and am having the same issue:  after a factory reset, went straight from 1/4 to 4/4 setup failed.

After a lot of frustration, I found diskurs post and followed the steps from their post:

    - Go to iOS Settings
    - Bluetooth > My Devices
    - find the scale device by name
    - tap the info icon ⓘ
    - tap Forget This Device

    This worked for me!

Even after 3 months of trying to get it to work... it STILL fails to connect to wifi or even use without Wifi. I cannot use my scale like many others in this thread.

Dear Customer Service, please do something - it is incredible that after so much time still seems a big majority of your customer base is having issues with the product. And zero official reply...

    Had the same issue.

    1. Reset to factory

    2. Install the app into another device and use it for the initial setup (an iPad in my case)

    3. Logout from the main device and log back in

    Now it works fine.

I came across this issue with my old withings smart body analyzer and with my new Body+.

I started a new withings account and it worked with no changes made with the scale itself.

I think it has something to due to new terms and conditions and my old account never prompted me to accept those conditions. So it errors out on the scale. Just a thought.

I solved this after several hours… I went through all the steps mentioned here, but that didn’t fix it.

The device worked fine for several years. Until the battery was dead and replaced and I got into the same set-up loop.

    1. I removed/forgot the device in my Bluetooth list
    2. I disassociated the device in the Health Mate app
    3. I then did the factory reset
    4. Added the device Body+ in the iOS app

And then I suddenly had a normal set-up. Hopes it helps someone else too.
