Withings needs to reconsider, reverse this decision and apologise as quickly as possible.

This is an example of the wrong and entirely dumb move that ends companies by alienating their user base.

No more Withings items for me also I will be looking into my return window on a recent purchase. What a cheap money grab!

I own the Smart Body Analyzer, BPM Connect and Thermo. All of those products are premium-priced but I appreciated the design and effortless syncing with Apple Health.

The mere suggestion that my data might be held hostage in the future is enough for me to end my relationship with Withings. The argument that "it only applies to new users" doesn't fly; we've seen companies slide down that slippery slope many times before. As it stands, I won't be purchasing any further products.

This is an awful decision. Even though I am grandfathered in I will reconsider purchasing Withings products in the future. This feature should not be under a paywall or subscription. Unacceptable decision and I won’t be recommending the brand to family or friends anymore.

Wouldn’t have bought any Withings product is this was in place. Will definitely not moving forwards if it remains.

It’s the one single function that is a requirement for me.

I fully support this complaint. Charging customers a subscription to access and sync their own health data is unacceptable. We already pay premium prices for Withings devices. Basic interoperability should be included, not hidden behind a paywall. This decision seriously damages customer trust. Please reverse it.

Such a bad decision to charge for a basic feature.
This is the same reason I don’t have an Oura ring.

I'm not against Withings+ or subscriptions in general. I understand charging for additional services, advanced insights, and calculated scores, even if I find some of the Body Scan 2 restrictions questionable. However, creating subscription value by restricting basic functionality is a different matter.

Putting Apple Health synchronization behind a paywall goes too far. Syncing health data with Apple Health should be a standard feature, not a premium service. The same applies to accessing underlying measurements from purchased hardware.

While I can accept charging for advanced analytics or API services, basic interoperability should not require a subscription.

Even though my account is unaffected, this decision has significantly damaged my trust in Withings. I will no longer recommend its products, have put future purchases like a ScanWatch on hold, and am reconsidering my Withings+ renewal.

Wow even if they reverse this I will not trust them in the future and buy something else when it’s time to upgrade.

Similar situation to others, just placed the order for new scale a day ago, only to wake up to this mess, and planned to give away old one to family member.

As someone well bought in the eco system almost decade ago (back from the original Activite watch), now down 6 devices (from scale, over BPM to sleep mat). Absolutely love the devices for connectivity but see no value in subscription.

After this lockout for new users, cant really ever recommend it to anyone. Main driver towards the withings was always the data ownership and great integrations (and motivation why I steared away from Garmin for anything but a triathlon watch).

With this change, and API change, new scale will be going back as soon as it is delivered. And I really can’t in good concience consider any future devices as this is indicative of the path they are taking.

I would not mind to pay subscription to get lifetime insurance and upgrades of devices like Whoop does — basically leasing the “latest” device every few years. But paying subscription to export my data to my phone, is literally taking a way core feature of device.

Putting features that aren't currently free behind a paywall is wrong, even if it's just for new users. When making great products, don't risk your brand and reputation by making this decision.

Seconded. I bought and recommended Withings devices because they’re premium, high-quality devices that are first-class citizens in the Apple ecosystem (and because they integrate with Android Health Connect and have an API).

This decision decimates the few reasons to pay the premium prices beyond the high-quality hardware… which I now can’t share with any new household members or guests.

Along, of course, with a reversal of these poor decisions, Withings will need to put immense effort into regaining the good-will of its consumers after these decisions.

I personally gifted scanwatches to 3 family members. they are great looking hybrid watches and great quality hardware. But i simply will not continue to support a company that wants to charge consumers for their own health data.
Unfortunately this is a break of trust and i don’t see a way back.
Whoever decided this is the way to go basically has told us what direction
Whitings wants to go and its not the one that made me want to buy their products.

I will also stop being a Withings customer if this decision isn’t reversed. As a software architect/developer, I know for a fact that this feature does not require any ongoing costs.

Reverse this decision. I just purchased a new body scan scale last week but am heavily considering returning the product and moving to a new platform for additional health metrics.
