Chiming in to express my disappointment in Withing's with this shortsighted attempt to push more people onto a paid service.
I may be grandfathered in but any of my kids that are soon old enough to own an iPhone and might want to sync it to our scales are out of luck, I guess. That will quickly mean Withing's are out of luck as well.
Not too late to reverse course guys.

    Wow, what a short-sighted change.

I bought my scale because it was a reliable way to track weight, and get it into the Health app. That's just table-stakes for a Bluetooth scale nowadays.

I will not be buying another Withings product if there will be subscription charges for normal expected features like this - and not just as a knee-jerk reaction, it's just an feature I wouldn't buy a smart device like scales without.

I purchased a Body Smart and registered it a couple of days before this announcement. Although I am not impacted, and am enjoying using it, I will never purchase a Withings product ever again and will actively discourage anyone from considering them. This kind of paywall on a basic sync function just stinks of corporate profiteering. If I saw value in the Withings app then I wouldn't be using apple health...

Agreed. This decision is outright negative and deadly for Withings as a brand, no sugar coating will soften this move.

To Withings - this is straightforward. As long this decision stays (even if its limited to new accounts), your brand is as good as dead. No one will buy any more devices from the brand, and neither will I.

I've always recommended Withings scales, but I don't think I'll be able to do that going forward. The cost of the subscription is almost the same as the cost of the Body Smart scale. I'm grandfathered in the old system, and I still think this is predatory and cannot support it.

It's a shame, I think the hardware is excellent. I understand the need to have some recurring revenue to keep servers/apps updated and keep storage going. However I don't think most people need or want an MCP or half the things a subscription has.

Free Apple Health syncing, and a $10-12 dollar a year plan for absolutely basic withing app/syncing I could probably get behind, maybe the $100 a tier that people have to upgrade to if they find value in those features.

I have 2 Withings devices : Thermometer and Scale. I was considering purchasing a blood pressure monitor but just reading this news, has completely changed my mind. You have not only lost an old customer but you've lost any future sales from me as well.

Putting something as essential as Apple Health sync behind a 100$ paywall is bs. All the good will that you had earned over the years has gone down the drain.

Farewell Withings. It was nice knowing you. Currently looking at alternatives, and no, I don't care that older customers like me get to keep Apple Health sync for free. It should be free for EVERYONE. It's not YOUR health data, it's mine and forcing your customers to pay 100$ per year just so we can have that data in Apple health is the stupidest decision you could have ever made.

wow, Withings responds with PR garbage and marks this as "Answered"

So your answer is to double down? Bye Felicia.

Thank you for spreading the word. I was about to buy a new Withings scale but will find some other brand now.

Withings, you need to change this immediately. I will never buy a product from you ever again.

You just cost yourself a pending sale of a BodyScan 2. I've been a customer with a Body Comp for a long time I was considering upgrading as I believed you'd made a good product, but you just lost my trust.

“for accounts created from October 13, 2026, automatic sync to third-party apps is part of Withings+.”

Does this include Strava uploads? Looks like I will be leaving Withings and not looking back when my current Scanwatch dies.

I have the sleep monitor and scale. Sadly I will look elsewhere for future purchases. I was planning to buy a couple of scales as gifts for Xmas so will probably end up buying the Eufy instead.

You are totally destroying your brand by this move. It's in the same league as when BMW wanted monthly pay for seat heating and paying for Apple Car Play, Sony when they announced that next gen console will be all digital distribution of games, Adobe's money grabbing tactics. This is NOT putting customers first. And without customers there will be no Withings.

This bad reputation that has already started to spread by angry customers will very soon end up in the books.

Start doing surveys by asking your customers before stupid decisions hits the fan.

    This is terrible!

I bought my scale for this one functionality. Even though I’m grandfathered in, now I cannot invite my family to use it, nor can I pass it along if I were to upgrade it.

At the very least, old devices should be grandfathered in, not just accounts.

Automatic syncing with Apple Health was really the only reason I bought a smart scale instead of a regular one. If that feature ends up behind a paywall, I'll definitely never buy another Withings scale again.

It has become increasingly clear that withings has really lost the plot here. We get it you all want to charge for expensive hardware and then recurring revenue . Your recent changes will ensure your revenue will fall in both categories. I have owned many scales and products but the body scan is my last one especially after the shenanigans with the body scan 2 and your gating of features behind a paywall. Good luck

    Same same.

I have no desire for Withings+ subscription, and have bought multiple devices over the years.

This ends here if it is the direction of travel by the company.

Created an account just to chime in: I as well will NOT be replacing my current Withings scale (with which I have been super happy!) with another Withings scale if this continues, even if I'd be grandfathered in. Syncing to Health is the whole point for spending money on the scale.

This is basically the last straw. After being a customer since the early scale pedometers, all soon stop… Alongside practice is like making batteries impossible to swap into perfectly viable products such the steel HR. Will wait that my second steel HR dies and will never buy Withings again.

Like others I have just created an account to express my dissatisfaction. I'm a long time customer who owns multiple Withings products. If you continue with this move I will not purchase any future products or recommend Withings to friends.

I’ve been a Withings customer for over 12 years, and was about to buy a new Withings scale. Unfortunately, due to this change I feel forced to switch to another brand, as I do not support paywalling basic functionality, even if it’s only for new customers. It’s a pity that Withings goes down that road. Well, it was nice as long as it lasted. Goodbye.

This is the opposite of what a hardware company should do.

If you want people to subscribe, give them features worth paying for instead of locking basic functionality.

What’s next, a subscription to see the number on the scale’s display?

I’ll stop buying Withings products since they are now known to have aggressive pricing and tactics. I will get rid of my products as soon as I can and actively discourage people from buying with this company moving forward

So, I'm grandfathered in (for now) but I'm sure you'll move the goalpost down the road again. What a ridiculous and convoluted workaround for those that don't want to pay $99/year for Apple Health syncing for a scale that is already bought and Apple Health which syncs data from so many devices without having to pay. You want new customers to manually export a CSV and then import that data? Wow, that's so ridiculous you're going to have people pay $99/year for! I will NOT EVER buy another Withings product again and I may as well start looking for your replacement. Sad you have to bleed your customers out of cash when everyone is already struggling to make it.

This is absurd. A feature that costs Withings nothing to run, is used to gatekeep and force users into a subscription. Pure business decision and PR jargon to justify. This would be a reason to NOT recommend Withing anymore.
