Dear team Withings,
I recently got my hands on Scanwatch 38mm and I want to share some feedback with you.
I used Samsung Galaxy Watches (S3, W3, W4) for about 4 years. Recently, I found I didn't need that many smart features because I wasn't using them anyways. I also started to hate the look of the Galaxy watch, because the it either drains too much battery (AOD on) or looks bad (AOD off).
I wanted to change it for something less smart but more stylish.
When my friend showed me the Scanwatch, I immediately fell in love with the design, so I had to buy it too.
After a few days of exploring all the settings, tweaking them, and reading all feature requests in forums, I got kind of disappointed, to be honest - I noticed, that the Scanwatch team hasn't added many features (At least they fixed a lot of bugs, for which I am glad.)
Since I read the forums and went through all the possible features I would like to let you know, which I think are the most important ones.
As a graduated software engeneer, tech enthusiast and working software developer I sorted the features by most important to less important related to average user (based on forum likes, number of estimated feature usages and how it will help the user).
Thanks for your reply.
Jan P.
PS: I found out, that Garmin Vivomove Trend, which I consider to be competitive product to Scanwatch, has most of features listed here already implemented ... :(
FEATURES:
(ESSENTIAL) Automation of Quicklook and Do Not Disturb
- Possibility to define a schedule, when Q and DND modes will be turned ON and OFF.
- It is annoying to manually turn it OFF each night and ON every morning (according to many users' likes on comments, not just me).
- This really seems like a must-have feature for us because we don't want the display to be turning on when we try to fall sleep.
- For comparison, Samsung's Galaxy have Bedtime mode, which can also be turned ON/OFF in defined times.
(ESSENTIAL) Calls
- At least a call hang-up is a must-have.
- At the current state of implementation, I see no added value for me
- Why would I look who is calling if I still need to take my phone (where I will see it anyway) to take action?
- Better would be fast SMS reply - text defined by user, there could be more of them, at least 3
- The best would be the posibility to choose from hang-up/answer/SMS reply.
(ESSENTIAL) Widgets
- Steps widget, which (is the only widget) the Health Mate app has.
- Sleep widget, which I am missing.
- Battery widget (which is less not that important, considering the watch baterry lige) - either standalone or by using the bluetooth batery report (which is than displayed by Apple or Samsung battery widgets)
- Also I would like the widgets to follow dark mode (like the app does)
(USEFUL) Find my phone
- It just plays some loud sound on the phone, so you can find it.
- Even devices like STag have this functionality.
(USEFUL) Weather screen
- Among all the proposed screens, this was the most requested and I am also missing it a lot because I got used to using the watch as a weather forecaster.
(USEFUL) Home screen customization
- Not everyone wants to see time (because the watch is showing it anyway)
- Other useful stuff should be shown configurable to show on the home screen such as heart rate, weather, notification counter/notifier
(NICE) Notification screen
- Screen, where you could browse phone notifications
- It was also requested a lot, but IMHO, It is way better to just take the phone for this, since the screen is too small and you can't type on it
(NICE) Music screen
- Screen from where you can controll music.
- Music controll was like the second most requested, but IMHO it is less important, because you can usually controll music from headphones or by phone buttons or anyway on phone homescreen and any of those methods is usually faster.
(NICE) REM phase detection.
(NICE) Alarm snoozing by button press + end alarm by holding.
(NICE) Option to reverse wheel direction.
(NICE) Vibration intensity setting.
