Note: If you do not have a suction cup tool for opening U-Scan, please follow the instructions using your hands, preferably with the gloves packaged with U-Scan or rubber gloves to aid in gripping the device.
While daily cleaning/upkeep and an automatic daily purge feature can keep U-Scan clean, sometimes a more robust deep cleaning process is necessary to fully clean the device.
Deep cleaning of the device is highly recommended and will be suggested by the app when:
- a Cartridge is replaced
- the collection point of the U-Scan is potentially clogged, resulting in measurement failure
- you have not used the U-Scan for an extended period of time
Deep cleaning is two-fold:
- External - The surface of the U-Scan is cleaned by being submerged in a mixture of detergent (packaged with the U-Scan) and water inside of the U-Scan Station.
- Internal - The fluid collection tube inside the U-Scan is cleaned by collecting a mixture of water and cleaning powder (packaged with the U-Scan’s Cartridges). Rinsing the U-Scan with water afterwards helps pump the remaining detergent in the fluid collection tube out of the device.
To deep clean your Withings U-Scan, follow these steps:
- Remove U-Scan from your toilet and dry it thoroughly with a paper towel.
- Open the Withings app and go to Devices > U-Scan > Clean and charge U-Scan.
-
Open the U-Scan:
- Position the suction cup on the center of the U-Scan's cover and hold the U-Scan in one hand and the suction cup handle in the other.
- Press down firmly on the suction cup to create a seal between the suction cup and cover.
- Twist the suction cup handle counterclockwise along with the cover to close the U-Scan. - Confirm that the gasket is in place and tap Yes.
-
Close the U-Scan by lining up the arrows with the dots on the device.
The app will ask you to confirm that you have lined up the arrow with the dot to ensure a watertight seal.
Tap Confirmed to continue. - Fill the Station with water and cleaning powder up to the gray marking and tap Next to continue.
-
Insert the U-Scan by:
- threading the toilet clip through the top of the Station cover, making sure that the arms of the cover cradle the top of the U-Scan's body
-
aligning the U-Scan's shell side with the shell icon on the Station.
-
Plug the Station into a power source and tap Next.
Note: Make sure the area around the USB-C port is dry so no water enters the port. - The Station's status light (LED) will turn white to indicate the U-Scan is detected.
-
The U-Scan's status light will turn orange to indicate the U-Scan is charging. You should be able to see the orange light through the top of the Station. Tap "I see an orange LED" to confirm.
- The app will confirm that the deep cleaning has started and will take 3.5 hours to complete.
-
Tap Next and then Exit.
The U-Scan will start emitting motor noises within 20 minutes, indicating that the internal cleaning has commenced. -
After 3.5 hours have passed, you should receive a notification on your mobile device that the deep cleaning has concluded.
Tap on the notification to proceed. - Remove the U-Scan from the Station and rinse it under room temperature water running at a medium flow for at least 20 seconds. You should hear the device as it pumps water through the fluid collection tube to clear out any remaining detergent.
- The U-Scan will eventually stop pumping and its status light will turn off, indicating the conclusion of the cleaning cycle.
- Place the device back in the toilet.
- A scheduled purge will happen within 20 minutes, and the U-Scan won't be available for another measurement during this period.
Note: If you want to store your U-Scan for a period of time, you can do so after the scheduled purge is finished. Simply dry off the U-Scan as well as the Station and store both items in a dry place out of direct sunlight.
