最大摄氧量是关键健康指标。最大摄氧量指人在剧烈运动期间一分钟消耗的最大氧气量。消耗的氧气越多,肌肉越用力,因此最大摄氧量水平就越高。最大摄氧量水平高说明健康水平高。

在医学上,最大摄氧量可使用螺旋测量法进行测量,受试者在运动过程中佩戴专为获取最大氧气吸收量(最大摄氧量)而设计的面具。当受试者在测力计或跑步机上跑步或做骑自行车运动时,用面具罩住嘴和脸。

最大摄氧量水平越高,工作肌肉中能转换来提供能量的氧气量越多,相应的耐受能力也越高。
