If you are receiving NO body composition measurements, please see our dedicated article.
Receiving an inconclusive or erroneous result typically indicates that the measurement was performed in a manner that prevented BodyScan 2 from accurately assessing your body composition.
Typically, user movement or not following measurement guidelines closely are the main reasons for receiving an inconclusive or erroneous body composition measurement.
When a body composition measurement is inconclusive or fails, you will see an error or inconclusive screen on your scale, as detailed below:
'Error X Body Compo' Screen |
'Body Compo Inconclusive' Screen |
If you receive a body composition error or inconclusive body composition measurement, please follow these guidelines for successful body composition measurements:
Scale surface
- Make sure that your scale is clean.
- Make sure the scale glass is not scratched, as this could prevent the glass electrodes in the scale to get in good contact with your feet.
Positioning and skin-to-skin contact
- Make sure you step on the scale barefoot and stay completely still during measurement.
-
Dry feet might prevent the body composition measurement. As such, we advise that you weigh yourself after your shower so that your skin is in its best condition for the measurement.
- Make sure that you always use the handle when you want to take a body composition measurement. Without the handle, a body composition measurement is not possible.
-
Hold the handle with both hands and ensure each hand is holding the correct side. Place your thumbs on each of the top electrodes on the handle and your fingers on the electrodes on the back of the handle.
- Avoid skin-to-skin contact by making sure your hands and your arms are not touching the skin of your torso, and your thighs are not touching each other. (See illustration below.)
-
Wear light clothing on your torso and legs to help prevent skin-to-skin contact.
Note: Wearing light clothing should have no impact on your weight measurement.
Correct positioning highlighting the reduced skin-to-skin contact.
Confirming Profile and Scale Settings
- Make sure your profile information such as height, gender, and age are entered correctly within the Withings App by going to your Profile.
In order to successfully take body composition measurements:
- Your age must be between 16 and 99 years old
- Your height must be between 3 ft / 90 cm - 8 ft / 249 cm
- Your weight must be between 64 lbs / 29 kg - 595 lbs / 270 kg - Make sure that you don't have any Modes enabled that would prevent body composition from being measured*. This includes Weight-Only Mode and Pregnancy Mode. You can disable them from the Devices tab under 'Modes'.
- Make sure that your scale has at least 15% battery charge.
* If you are pregnant, we do not recommend measuring body composition for the duration of your pregnancy. The BodyScan 2 has not been tested and/or validated for usage during pregnancy. Due to its impedance technology related to the usage of limited electric currents and for precautionary purposes, we recommend that you disable impedance-based measurement capability if you are pregnant. You can do this by enabling either Weight-Only Mode or Pregnancy Mode by going to Devices >BodyScan 2 > Modes and make sure either mode is toggled on.
