Recently, the scale has been failing to sync so I followed the instructions provided by signing out of the app and back in again, reconnecting the scale, updating the scale, factory resetting the scale, but the scale won’t connect to… well, anything. The app has been freshly logged out/in and is up to date, I’m practically sitting on top of my router, so signal strength isn’t an issue, and the scale has been updated and reset. My wifi and Bluetooth are also turned on on my phone and my phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz option.
Still, I get “setup failed” every time.
it seems to be an app problem, though. If I try holding the scale’s button for 3 seconds with the app not open, it holds on the “Hello / Setup / 1/4” screen. When I then open the app, I immediately get “Setup Failed.” It also fails immediately if I do it in the right order, going through the “install a device” menu in-app and waiting until I get to the “Turn on your scale” screen before turning on the scale. That will also lead to “setup failed” immediately. But the fact that I don’t get the “setup failed” error until the app is open leads me to believe this is an issue with the app and not with the scale. It looks like I last updated the app on October 17th, so maybe they pushed a bad update at that point?
The app isn’t listed as newly updated in the list of apps to update but when I opened the app’s entry in the App Store (while typing this post), it shows an available update from 1 day ago. I installed that update, reopened the app and tried again.
”setup failed”
Googling, I see (on Reddit and other forums) that A LOT of people are having trouble with their scales right now and I’m seeing nothing from Withings indicating their dev teams are on this at all. Very disappointing. Has anyone else had any luck with this or a similar problem or is this thing just a brick now?
