    Dear Community,

Thank you for creating this thread. I'm sorry to hear that you see the message "Set up failed" when trying to update or install your Body+. Please check first these two articles from our Help Center:

    - Body+ - Installing my scale

    - Body+ - I'm having issues installing my device. What should I do?

I also invite you to ensure that:

    1) Your mobile device stays within 5 feet/1 meter of the scale during the whole set-up.

    2) You remain in the Health Mate app and you do not switch to any other app until the installation is complete.

    3) If you have an Android device, the location is activated on your phone and Health Mate has access to it.

    4) Your mobile device is compatible (you'll find more information here).

    5) Your Health Mate app is up-to-date (the current version is Health Mate 5.12).

    6) Your Body+ is not already in your phone's list of Bluetooth devices. If that's the case, please "forget" it from the list. For that, go to the "Settings" of your device > "Bluetooth" > "Body+". To the right of "Body+", for Android devices, you will see a Gear icon. Select this icon then tap on "Forget". For iOS devices, you will see a blue 'i' icon. Select this icon, tap on "Forget this device" and then confirm. After "forgetting" your scale, try again to install your scale.

If you've already checked all of these points, please force close your Health Mate, clear the cache, reboot your phone and attempt to set up/update your Body+ one more time.

I hope I was able to help you. If the situation persists, you can reach out to us via https://within.gs/help. In your email, please share the exact error message displayed on your app and also indicate that you've already followed the instructions given in this Forum post.

    Have a nice day,

I got "Setup Failed" after my Body+ scale lost connection to my phone
(I have no obvious reason why connection was lost)

Tried all steps recommended. No result.

Removed the scale from Health Mate. Removed the BT connection. Tried installing as new - same result.

    My procedure is this:

    1. Open Health Mate.
    2. Choose install Body+ scale
    3. Turn on scale.
    4. Scale says 1/4 SETUP
    5. Press next on Health Mate
    6. Scale says 4/4 SETUP FAILED

    Scale Model WBS05
    Iphone 13 pro
    IOS 15.2

    Any suggestions?

Same here, brand new scale, setup stops during the updating. It gets to 96% then stops and said there were some issues with the update. I tried it three times and all times I get the same results. Merry Tech Xmas

Same here - I got it for xmas tried to do setup and it just gets stuck on 3/4 in the setup phase... have tried all trouble shooting advice (changed batteries, disconnected on bluetooth, and restarted it all over again several times...) same thing keeps happening... it looks like it working/ synching on both the scales and the phone but eventually the scales go to sleep as its taking so long and nothing happening

I'm having the same issue, except mine is about 3 years old and has always worked fine until about a week ago. Exact same steps as described by claus, using the same iOS and device. I wonder if there is a firmware issue?

Same issue. My Body+ is one year old and stopped working on 12/23/2021, giving the "Setup 1/4" quickly followed by "Setup Failed 4/4".

Just got mine today and also experienced the same "Setup Failed."  I was trying to get it where both my wife and I could share it.  Here is what I did do get it back working:

    1. Removed the device (Body Cardio) from both apps.
    2. Told iOS to forget the bluetooth device on both phones.
    3. Reset the scale again.
    4. Added the device on my iPhone app.  It connected and ran setup normally.
    5. Shared the scale with my wife (who has her own account).
    6. She accepted the invitation and seems to have normal access to the scale.

I am running software version 2231.  When I did the initial setup on my scale, it did do a firmware update.

I hope this might help someone as the work through this.  Kind of surprised that nobody from support has gotten engaged with this thread.  Good luck out there, and Happy New Year!!

Hold down the button on the side until the reset bar goes all the way across and the "Factory" comes on the screen.  It takes a bit, so just keep holding it.

Did the scale complete the reset and boot up?  If not, try it again.  And make sure to hold down on the side button until the "Factory" comes up.  Also, "forget" the device in bluetooth on your smartphone before resetting the scale.  That will force it to reconnect.  Give that a shot and see what happens.  It took me a couple of tries before it worked.

I held the button for five minutes straight (yes, I did measure.)

    No change.

    All I see is:

    Ciao / Hello /  Bonjour
    Setup
    1/4

Is there a way to ask the Withing support to pop by here?

Perfect!  Then all you need to do is get out your smartphone and set up the scale.  As long as the "fail" message does not come back, you should be great to set it up and use it.  I do wonder why Withings support doesn't monitor this...

Yes @doug.hart that is what one ecxpects. Unfortunately the only thing happening then is .... what I described in my first post. It is a full circle without any solution for me... and apparently to quite a few others.

The scale does not connect to the phone and it doesnt show any readings. In short: It is useless untill this problem is solved.

I will try to alert withings support to engage themselves here.

I have the same issue. Nothing new happens when I get factory, it is just setup failed over and over again

I had the same issue. I had to factory reset it several times before it worked. I also had to change the batteries (brand new) because i noticed that the multiple setups/factory resets took the charge down to 1%. I did not connect to WiFi, for some reason it didn’t detect it right away - it might be because of the low battery. It’s working now.

I had the same issue. I disassociated the scale, finally got it to select factory… and now it won’t turn on at all. Not even with new batteries. It’s even more frustrating because everything was working yesterday!

Sadly same here , when I was in the middle of set up and checked for an update which I received than ever since it says set up failed. i’ve change the batteries and removed any Bluetooth Association but I’m unable to reset it because no matter how long I hold the button on the back of the scale it doesn’t go into a factory reset

I just purchased my scales and I was very frustrated too, fortunately after over an hour of trying I have finally had success.

I did a factory reset and then tried to setup process again exactly as described.

    All the best!

    Hi all

    My problem is solved.

I removed the batteries for 6 days before putting them back in. That caused an immediate factor reset and from there on everything worked just fine.

I hope this will help You guys too.

I'm having same problem. If I completely reset, it might work once and then fails again.

I'm going to try and take the batteries out for a couple of days.

    It's running software version 1651

I think the reason for why taking out the batteries for a week worked for me is that an internal battery takes over and keeps the settings (including the error) alive for a short amount of time (e.g. when changing batteries). Leaving the battery compartment empty sooner or later causes the internal battery to die and the scale forgets all and is ready for a reset.

    Just a theory. Good luck.

I had the same - Body+ is starting (after failed update attempt) and showing "Hello" (1/4) and then jumping to "Setup Failed" (4/4). Called the support and they provided fast help. Go to your mobile device and remove the Body+ from the known devices from your Bluetooth-Device list. Then start the Body+ again - go to Health Mate app and re-add the device and just follow the instructions. Now it works like before. Thanks

I have removed the scale from the app and then setup again as described above. While it then works immediately, the next day I have the same problems and it is not syncing and I get the usual setup failed messages etc.

Same with mine, recently replaced batteries a month ago with Duracell. Have spent the past hour an a half trying different things. I’ve updated the wifi configuration to my router, waited at least 30 minutes to see if any data syncs. Then eventually I factory reset, then took out the batteries for a minute, then tried to do sync setup as indicated by all instructions. Now it’s just saying “setup failed” constantly no matter what…

Interesting, hopefully this thread gets updated again with a patch / fix.

I tried all of the above, however after trying to add my wifi details (step 3/4), then it loses connection to the iPhone and once again "Setup Failed". Seems common issue so baffled there is no official response from Withings....
