I know what it is to innovate.
That is why I will strive to write this message as a way for withings to improve.
If I take my time to write this, it is because I am sufficiently not happy to say the list with my purchase of the body scan. I bought it for key features, as I am working on my physical shape:
1. Wifi to have a continuous and instantaneous synchronization once I make the measurements (with other scales on bluetooth I had to pay attention to the procedure)
2. History and record of all data (with other scales I had to put manually the data in an excel sheet)
3. Distinction between arms, legs, torso (no other scales offer this functionality. there is +200 euros just for that features since the highest one after body scan is body comp without this feature)
Given the very high price of the Withings body scan, we are entitled, as with an Apple product, with a fluid User experience with just everything right, beyond having the same look&feel packaging...
What I encounter and lived is:
1. almost systematic lost of connection, forcing me to reconfigure the wifi all the time
2. no immediate data update. When I go on the scale in the morning, sometimes there is more than a day (we are the 5th, I am still with data of the 3rd...) to get the data instead of it being instantaneous.
3. no use of Bluetooth to compensate wifi disconnection (that would be relevant)
4. messy application: we are submerged with elements without guidance for the eyes, without customization of the interface, without customizable summary dashboard. I feel you forgot to deal with the essentials. Less is more. I feel you want to make your application say too much about health whereas the basics are still not dealt with.
5. It feels like french innovation: no attention paid sufficiently to the fluid user experience, with a strong focalization on the ergonomy, and a tendency to think that more features is more.
6. When I needed to post a message to point out at everything that could be improved, I discovered you have a one direction only communication. Everything is done for people to deal with forum, FAQ, website, etc. Nothing is done to engage in a customer requirement driven product. I think this is an strategic error for your future development. Innovation per se is not enough. What is key is user experience.
It is not possible, when you sell a product at 400€, not to meet key expectations that are widely claimed.
I do not have the time to send it back. I hope some day the disconnecting wifi will be fixed. I hope I will find my way in all the things you impose to me on the interface to focus by myself on the essentials I need.
But please, refocus on user experience and requirement driven development !
