I find myself wondering, Withings: Do you have so few females on your team that you cannot figure out how to correctly implement simple menstruation tracker software in your app? Or is there someone in leadership not letting the dev team implement this? Or maybe the developers not want to? What gives?! This feature is software 101.
You don't need any hardware changes to implement period tracking. A few basic SW app interfaces and some buttons, a tiny amount of backend data compared to everything you're already storing (a handful of calendar dates! That's it, for version 1.0!) Is there too much discomfort for a primarily male engineering team needing to write a user story or code or testing for menstruation that's keeping you from implementing it?!? -- I cannot fathom how basic menstruation tracking isn't implemented and available yet after being present in other fitness trackers/watches, affecting a whopping 50% of the population, and being requested from your users after 3+ years. A decent coder could knock this out in a few weeks, tops.
To put salt in the wound, females are much less likely to be diagnosed/referred for treatment for heart issues compared to males, and many studies on AF historically are grossed skewed to the male population. Your new ECG watch is now happily making that health access disparity even WORSE, as females are less likely to select your product offering and its benefits of AF diagnosis, since your app doesn't have a period tracker feature like other fitness watches/apps. Maybe your new CMO Shikha Anand should take a look at this one to help ensure your products "are equally accessible and relevant for everyone" (straight from her LinkedIn profile). I hope she sees this and drives the team to fix this simple gender disparity ASAP. This is 2022; women menstruate, they have periods, we can acknowledge that as a society, full-stop. You have the fanciest ECG watch out there, with a nice slick app to go with, Withings... A basic period tracker is well within your team's capabilities, and fast. Please just get it done!
