Note: With Firmware Release 841, we have introduced an optional Heart Sound Measurement Assistance Mode which can provide real-time feedback for correct positioning. Read about it here.
This article will help you if you encounter any of the following issues:
- You have no ECG/heart sounds recording
- You received an inconclusive recording
You have no ECG/heart sounds recording
- Make sure you have followed these guidelines when taking a measurement. Failing to do so may lead to inaccurate results or cause the measurements to fail.
- Make sure you have followed the steps to record an ECG. Click here for more information.
- Make sure the metal tube (electrode) is in direct contact with your skin. If this is the case, clean it with a tissue and try to record a new ECG.
- Check the stethoscope position. The entire flat surface should be in contact with your chest. Ensure that the stethoscope is not too at the front or the back of your torso.
- Ensure that the extremity of the cuff does not interfere between the stethoscope and your chest.
- Make sure you did the required number of recordings in order to get a reading. You will initially need 5 successful measurements before receiving the results of your stethoscope recordings.
- Do not speak or move during the measurement process. Take the measurement in a calm and quiet area.
You received an inconclusive recording
An inconclusive result means the recording can’t be classified. This can happen for many reasons:
Heart rhythm is too low
The heart rate obtained cannot be classified as a recording. To obtain a full analysis, the heart rate must be above 50 bpm during the recording.
Heart rhythm is too high
The recording does not appear to show any signs of atrial fibrillation, but complete diagnosis is not possible for a heart rate above 100 bpm. To obtain a full analysis, the heart rate must be below 100 bpm during the recording.
Signal is too noisy
There is too much interference for the recording to be classified. Place your arm on a table or on your thigh, relax, don’t talk, and don’t move during the recording. Refer to the help section to know the right gestures to be adopted and those to be avoided.
- Try to relax and not move too much.
- Try to take a new recording. Please wait until the cuff is totally deflated before starting a new recording.
- Move away from any electronics that are plugged into an outlet to avoid electrical interference.
Notes:
- You can wear one layer of clothes but it should not cover your left arm. Undergarments such as A-shirts ('tank tops’) or bras can also affect the heart sounds signal. The electrodes should be in contact with the skin.
- If your heart rate is below 50 bpm ECG recordings will be inconclusive.
