Your U-Scan Cartridge contains 22 test strips before it needs to be replaced. The test strips inside every U-Scan Cartridge have a limited lifespan before they expire. An expired test strip will lead to inaccurate urinalysis measurements, and for this reason the U-Scan keeps track of its Cartridge's lifespan once installed.
The Cartridge will arrive sealed in a pouch to protect the test strip integrity when not being used. Test strip integrity will be greatly reduced from factors like air, light, heat, and humidity. Even when a U-Scan Cartridge is sealed and stored away from these factors, the test strips inside still contain chemicals that degrade over time, so there is also a limited lifespan for sealed Cartridges.
Because of this, each U-Scan Cartridge has 2 distinct expiration dates, depending on whether or not it has been open and exposed to air:
- When a Cartridge is opened and exposed to air, the test strips inside will expire after 3 months. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you install your Cartridge immediately after opening its package.
- When a Cartridge is sealed, the test strips inside will expire after 15 months. When storing a sealed Cartridge, it is crucial to store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to ensure the test strip integrity is intact.
