I got my money back, thanks to local reseller. I gave them link to this forum discussion and that was all needed. They just asked if I want new device or money back. They did not the watch back it back so I can throw a waterfowl with it when next hunting season starts.

Serioiusly, watch can be charged if one is patient enough. I have my charger on extension cord with a switch and when watch stops responding to tap, I switch mains off and on again. I keep doing this for several (tens) times until watch starts to draw current properly.

One day, when even this workaround fails, I start to look for Suunto or Polar smart watches. They, at least, have a  Customer Service that responds to users. And they have real algorithms for workouts instead of multiplying fixed kcal value by exercise minutes.

Shocking to see that Withings had only one useless comment in the whole chat. It's my 2nd watch within 2 months that I cannot charge. Definitely a factory issue. Withings is replacing the watches but doesn't want to admit, that there is either a software or mechanical problem with the charging system. Suppose a recall would cost them too much.

I have the same problem. It doesn't matter which kind of charger I use, the watch shows that it's charged for example 36% after >12 hours charging. All of a sudden it shows 48%. With other words, I doesn't work at all.

I have been having the same charging issue with ScanWatch 2. About 7 months old watch - has been having charging issues since at least 2-3 months of usage.

I reached out to Withings customer support chat multiple times BUT never got a reliable resolution. It's the same sorry excuse of check the charger, check the back of the watch, do the factory reset. I have ALREADY done that!!!!! I need you to address my issue. The watch simply doesn't charge. It is NOT a good product if it is so finicky to charge.

On top of that - Withings does not have a customer care number. Their chat feature is available only during work hours on weekdays. They don't respond on the chat for HOURS!!!! How does one get resolution. WITHINGS - YOU ARE A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have same issue with my ScanWatch 2—it charges extremely slowly. After being connected to the charger for over 30 hours, the battery level has only reached 45%. This is quite disappointing, especially as my previous ScanWatch models have always performed reliably and never encountered such problems.

    Hi,

    Just some reflections.

As I told before I have the same issues charging my Scanwatch 2. I never had this problems with my old Scanwatch (1 gen), which I use to charge with exactly the same USB-A cahargers. I have lots of chargers! I tried most of them with my Scanwatch 2. Several of them are "old fashion 5V 2,4 A" chargers. I have also more modern so called PD chargers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hardware#Power) . Anyhow, I have and old IKEA power outlet strip KOPPLA (https://www.ikea.com/se/sv/p/koppla-grenuttag-m-4-hal-och-2-usb-portar-vit-90280826/ ) laying behind my sofa. I pure desperation I connected my original Scanwatch 2 charger to the USB-A connector, and the watched charged normal up to 100% in 40 minutes! I don't know why, or if this is a one time coincidence or so. I just want you to know.

    Greetings Einar

PS KOPPLA is the Swedish word for connect! :-) DS

Same Issue here. I did also do the factory reset. Sometimes it does load, but if it does it is super slow. I will return it to where I bought it to get a new one. I think the only way to make withings understand, that they have a software or hardware problem is to return the watches. So far it seems that they ignore it.

I'm having the same problem. Nowadays the charger won't charge the watch. By removing the watch and then replacing it in the charger, it might charge another 1% or 2%. I've tried another USB cable and another PSU. The last charge took 6 hours from 50% to 100%. During that charging period, I had to remove and re-seat the watch 6 or 7 times and check it regularly to see if was charging. Withings online support doesn't work either - no one seems to be there.

I've had 100% luck with blowing exceptionally hard into the watch's charging port AND the port in the charger.  The last 4 times I've charged my watch it has worked perfectly...before I started doing this, it was exactly like everyone else is describing.  It might be worth washing out the port with a strong stream of water, letting it air dry and then charging, too.  I truly believe the issue is that the connection between the charger and the watch is so small and tight anything that gets in the way of the connection, especially dust and lint, will mess up charging.  This fits with everyone saying it worked fine for a few months and the problem started up...because in that time lint/dusk/grime filled into the charging port.  It's the most finicky charging device I have ever, ever owned.  Withings definitely needs to rethink this process on new products.

Most likely it‘s a systemic problem of the watch either hardware or algorithm. It‘s so frustrating to see that everything works except the charging. I love the design, the fact that the battery holds so long etc.
    So yes it‘s bad.
I however don’t share the view that client support is bad. I‘ve been helped with a lot of courtesy and my watch is being replaced. Just get in touch over their chat.

What I think is that the problem could be a body oxidation issue.

The charging base has two tiny pins, one touches the needle, the other touch the body.

My solution is to twitch the watch inside the charging base to brake that tiny oxidation film and improve the connection.

Same problem here. Only, the watch charges sometimes, it's like a game of roulette, I never know if it will charge or not. This evening it was at 66% when I started charging it, now an hour later it is at 65%. It's a lovely watch except for this fatal flaw.

I just want to say that I also still have the same problem! I previous wrote that it was possible to charge with old IKEA charger. It was only one time luck. I don't think it's dust or bad contact in charger...., because the watch show flashing battery charging symbol. But when I have the problem the watch often shows a lower percentage after a while, then when I put the watch in the charger. (ex. watch have 28% battery level, after 20 min charging it shows 26% procent battery level, although the symbol is flashing indicating the watch is charging). I hope that Withings take this issue seriously, because in most other aspects I like my watch a lot.

try completely reset the watch. set to factory reset, possible remove the app and reinstall it fresh as well. try that. if not working still. contact support. it takes them forever. their service is very poor. maybe need a replacement

Thanks Sam W for your tips and ideas. I noticed that sometimes a simple reboot of the watch help. I haven't tried factory reset yet (I am a little afraid of losing data then).

When I checked out my watched right now it has rebooted by it self (got the "hello name" welcome sign) and the charge level jumped from 36% to 93%.

I start to think that replacement maybe is the only solution.

I had the same issue that I fixed by thoroughly cleaning the watch and the charger pins with a qtip and some alcohol. In my case this worked like a charm. Both the watch and the charger looked shiny and clean but there must have been some invisible film coating the surface and preventing proper contact.

After contact with support, I now need to restart the watch before charging. This way it so far has worked two out of three times. The last time it did not charge - but after restarting the watch one more time it suddenly was 100% charged. I like the features and the look of the watch, but this problem is slightly annoying. But, hopefully it will continue to be able to be charged if just keep restarting the watch often enough.

Withings should really fix this bug though, and it would also be useful with support where you don't need to start new tickets all the time.

My watch got replaced after I tried all possible tricks. I’m still convinced it’s not hardware related. There is clearly a bug either in the charger unit or the watch. I’m surprised no official communication is coming. If I was the CEO I would have a serious discussion with the engineering staff as this is becoming a reputational issue.

Sometimes I feel that a restart/reboot of the watch just before putting I charger helps……but then next time it doesn’t…..
I don’t think its bad galvanic contact between charger and watch in my case, because the charging indicator (flashing battery symbol in the watch display) always starts flashing when putting watch in charger, but it doesn't charge

I hope that Withings works on a solution for this problem.......

Now again, the watch did not charge even after restart prior to charging. Sometimes it charges, sometimes it does not. I charge it almost daily by now to keep it working and close to fully charged.  When synced through the app it says something different than on the watch - so perhaps it is charging - perhaps the display on the watch is just wrong?

I believe the people at Withings are doing their best, but I must express my profound frustration by this charging procedure.

Thus far, the ScanWatch2 looks nice, has nice measurement features, but when the charging problems  appear it is like an expensive piece of uselessness.

Today I tried placing a folded business card between the left side of the watch and the spring loaded arm of the charger and it seems to do the trick. It might be that the spring isn't strong enough to hold the watch into the charger.

Same problem. Scanwatch 2 bought a few months ago stopped charging.

Tried charging overnight when at 10%. Did not charge at all. A month ago I had same problem. At that time, I replaced the original cable with the one I use for my phone. It worked for a bit, now I have this issue again.

    Customer service seems non existent.

I experience the same charging problem with the ScanWatch 2 as many others,
and have contacted Withings about this several times – so far without result. I have never managed to charge the watch in one go.
I have to repeatedly place the watch in the charging unit, unplug it and put
it in the Apple charger, hoping that it will eventually start charging.
Downright frustrating. Unfortunately, the online helpdesk does not add anything: questions are
repeated, and this specific problem is not even listed. You keep getting stuck. I get the impression that Withings is unreachable, both in terms of content
    and service.
I hope someone finally takes this seriously, before I feel compelled to share
    my experience publicly.

I’m experiencing exactly the same issue. I’ve been trying to contact Withings for several months now, but unfortunately, I haven’t had any success.

For anyone new, I think this problem has been solved.  You have to do a factory reset of the watch and that fixes the issue.  Someone mentioned this in previous post and it sorted it for me.  3 charges now with no issues.  It even tells your phone when its done charging.  I might have gotten lucky but after trying all the other options its the one that seems to work for me.

Good to know. I was considering upgrading my Scanwatch but the charger was so awful and inconvenient  it feels like a joke. I had to put a stack of stuff on top of the watch and charger for charging to work... And now it doesn't work anymore, at all.

The fact that Withings made an apparently even worse charger for the newer watches is a dealbreaker. I'll look for another brand instead.

I have had my watch for less than a year and in the last 48 hours, the charging problem has started.

In my case I am hoping that the recently released update will fix it. (Go into the app > devices and it shows there is an update waiting. It takes a few minutes). If not, I will try a factory reset and also try holding it into the charger more securely (REALLY Withings? THAT is necessary??)

The reason Withings isn't communicating on the thread seems simple enough: they've marked it as 'Answered' (when it clearly hasn't been for many of us) because Toni from Withings officially commented ... one year ago.

So all new posts here appear to be screaming into an abyss.
