Agreed! I have attempted three times to get assistance with the same problem. The back of my scanwatch has detached, which means there is no connection to recharge the battery. Withings customer support is very unhelpful as they ask for photos of the watch and do not reply. It is just a delaying tactic. They cannot provide details of authorised repair centres. I have tried to have the back stuck back on, but my jeweller was unable to assist. I guess this is built in obsolesence.

    Email Withings Customer Support: contact-sup@withings.com

Although as mine was outside of warranty the best they ended up offering me was 50% discount and free shipping to either US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe, which was not much help when I am in Australia. So it may or may not be worth your effort depending on your situation.

As a temporary fix I have stuck the back down with a clear sticker over the top, keeping the charging contacts clear and to get it to charge I put a rubber band around the watch and charger to hold it down firmly. Seems to still work OK for sleep, HR etc. - just not waterproof anymore - but better than throwing away another piece of tech and money!

Very frustrating that there are so many people experiencing this problem and yet Withings refuses to acknowledge it publicly by responding on their own community posts site.

The back cover of my scanwatch came off last night. I’ve never dropped it.
Now realizing that it is a common design issue.
What is the way forward, withings?

Same here. My scanwatch is 2.5 years old, so out of warranty. It got condensation after being in a hot spring pool, it don’t swim at all btw. Then a few hours later the back came loose as I was drying it with a hair dryer. I have contacted support and reading these forums suggests the back cover coming off is a common thing.

So while the call is still with support and my watch is out of warranty, I have had some success - as in everything still works and I am hoping the condensation will dry out over time. I thought if heat makes the back come off, then perhaps it is the metal expansion. So I heating the watch front and back with a hairdryer again. While it was quite hot, I pushed the back cover down hard. It seems to have stayed in position and is certainly not falling off.

I could be completely wrong in my thinking, but I have seen guys doing iPhone repairs using heat also. I have also seen lots of posts here about how Withings is not very cool in that the non-repairability of the Scanwatch is not good for the environment. If what I am saying is correct, then Withings should support this tip for out of warranty customers. It not only is good for the environment, but keeps goodwill up too.

Same here!  I have just been in constant back and forth with their Consumer Services - they are not interested and don't want to know or do anything to address the problem.  As with other customers, they offered 25% and then increased it to 50% off a new watch (the same one) but do I want to risk the same problem again? It is clearly a design/manufacturing issue, that they are not dealing with.  They are happy to rip off their customers.  I always believed Withing to be a decent company with high quality goods with a very high standard of build.  Clearly I was wrong and won't be using again or recommending them to anyone.  Very disappointed with them.

3 months later.... I have been back and forth with Customer Service over the last few months and had my case escalated to a higher level, the absolute most they will do is provide a 50% discount but only off the old stock (and not much of that left) or offer of a refurbished model and they insist on disconnecting your current watch.  I am not happy with them, they will not accept that this model has a manufacturing problem and like everyone else I am worried about investing in another watch, in case the same thing happens again.  I have managed to get hold of the CEO's email and will be sending him details of this problem and how unhappy the customers are.  Not expecting anything back, but it might make me feel a bit better.  A complete farce - they want top price and advertise and promise a premium product but if fails and they won't honour it. Not impressed.

I just had the same thing happen to my second scanwatch. The first one did the same thing: condensation and then the back comes off and it's hard to charge. The first time it was under warranty but I couldn't get them to replace it. They said I had to go through Amazon and Amazon said to go through Withings. This was after many emails back and forth with Withings support asking for pictures, etc.  I finally gave up and bought another one because I really liked the product when it worked. I ordered this on on 12/10/22, so it's only been 8+ months. I just put super glue around the gasket and will see if that holds it. I'm sure they'll say the warranty is not valid now that I glued it. I don't want to deal with them again after last time.

    Hi Folks,

The same here > back cover has came off on my wife Withings  38mm Scanwatch.

Did Withings come up with any fix for this design issue? Which by the way seems continued in 38mm Scanwatch 2.

Or their strategy is warranty replacements only? And what the others should do then ?

If it's out of warrantee and you catch it soon enough, try gluing it with super glue and hope that it still charges.

Same thing happened to me. I sent an email to support just now. Reading through this forum it sounds like Withings are refusing to remedy fault?

The back of my watch became rattly in April, but it came apart completely last month, it is now nearly 3 years old. I have contacted Withings and sent photos and been told that it's a hardware issue and that my watch must be replaced.  I was offered a 25% discount, even if I could afford to buy another one, I don't want the same thing happening.  I'm gutted as I love the style and features of the watch, but to me it was really expensive and I can't afford to buy a new watch every few years.

I was left a little bit of money by an Aunt, so bought my watch and one for my husband a few months later.  The back came loose on his watch and it was replaced under warranty, after less than a year the back is loose on the replacement watch.  I would only buy another at a hugely discounted price if it had a longer warranty and the design fault has been fixed.

They aren't fit for purpose, Withings know that and should really replace them regardless of them being out of guarantee.

Exactly the same issue with me. 25% discount offered as a consolation as my ScanWatch is out of warranty but generally my question is the the next generation of ScanWatch is any better in quality as the design is almost the same (38mm model). The only difference is design I can see is that the charging pins are gone.

I bought the next Gen scan watch and I'm taking it off before I shower, bathe, or swim. This is my third watch as the other two had the back cover come off. No idea if this will help or if they improved the design to address the problem.

Exact same issue here. Between me and my partner, we have had 3 Withings scanwatches. They have all broken of the exact same issue (back coming off), right after the 2 year warranty period. Withings has offered 25% off, then at a push 50% off a new one. Why on earth would I want another one of these watches, when all three of mine have been terrible? This is clearly a planned obsolescence, and a major design flaw that must be rectified by Withings rather than continually ignoring the countless similar posts on here.

Also, Withings has told me that even if I took the discount, I couldn't have it delivered to my home in Australia, and would need to get it shipped to the UK or US. How unhelpful is that?

Delighted (because it means I'm not alone), but upset to hear all these comments.  Have mine just over three years now.  Couldn't charge it properly over the weekend, went through the whole factory reset business, and it seemed to be ok.  But it lost power very quickly. Just discovered yesterday the back has come loose. Have tried the online chat but there seems to be no-one home, tried an email and still nothing.

Based on the comments here, I won't be buying another one.  I'm disappointed because I really like the style of watch.

Well now! It looks like I am the latest victim of this really bad design. Maybe it should be renamed Scamwatch! Same story as everyone else here. 2.5 years old. Back came loose when I was asleep. No way of contacting anyone for replacement. Three watch repairers told me it cannot be repaired!! Great! $500+ down the drain. It is a great shame as I used the watch religiously to help me monitor my Atrial Fibrilation. Iwatch anyone?

I found this link, it may help, although I have not tried it myself: Withings Watch Repair | Nationwide Service - Watch Gnome. I am not advertising them, I simply found the link on the web, and they claim to repair Withings watches as well.

Same, 25% discount at the beginning, 50% after all but not for the newest model, but why would you buy the same watches if they will break again.

Same problem after just over 2 years of using the watch. I noticed water droplets inside the watch before I could see that the back has come loose. And now the battery life is limited to 2 days.
Thanks to your posts I already know that withings is not willing to fix this very common problem, and that instead they push for another purchase. I loved this watch, but if this is the company's strategy, I will never again buy anything from them.

I have the same problem. My first scanwatch was replaced by Amazon because it was still under warranty. But the same thing happened to the replacement watch two days ago. This time Amazon refused to replace it because they said the warranty was valid only for the original item and it ran out. I contacted Withings customer service on social media and they offered me a refurbished one that comes with a 6 month warranty. They also told me that the one I currently have will be deactivated after the exchange is complete. I guess it means they're going to remotely brick it. I decided to accept their offer. I only hope that I can get another two years out of the refurbished one they are sending and then I'm done with Withings. They should have issued a global product recall once it became clear that it was a manufacturing/design fault.

I love the product, but I hate the attitude of Withings. I had issues with moisture getting inside the watch which rendered the crown basically useless. After getting the 50% coupon for a new unit (why would I buy it again with the same issues), I just left it in rice for a month which worked. After three years of use, the back finally came off. I am done with Withings unless they change their repair policy. Not that other smartwatch manufacturers are that much better...

My back just got detached too. I got it as a gift back in November 2021. I don't think a smartwatch back should come detached for any reason if they are treated carefully, like mine was. Furthermore, I have smartwatches dating back several years with no such issue. I think Withings should do the right thing and repair these watches, even if they are out of the warranty period. I really like the look and functionality of the watch, but honestly I'm so disappointed as to how they are handling this.

FYI: purchase date Aug 3, 2020.

Any email to share I can use for contacting support?

And what about ScanWatch2, same problem(s)?

I haven't heard of any ScanWatch2 problems, but then again, it takes a couple of years for the defect to happen.

I'm interested in people who, like me, have old ScanWatch that were not covered by Withings. I have two. I love the product so much that I bought a ScanWatch2 and also take it off when showering or swimming. So I have $600 of defective product sitting in my desk drawer.

So many people who loved the product swore to never buy again due to the bad customer service policy of not replacing a watch with this manufacturing defect. It seems like it could be a huge PR problem for the company if this defect was highly publicized.

So, please reply to the main thread if you have been satisfied with a replacement.
